I don't understand what any of this has to do with the thread title?

The next "wave" of new flight simmers that will drive XP12 sales through 2024 is going to be finding XP off the back of several big VR console titles landing this year,

PSVR2 is also in the process of getting official PC support:

https://www.theverge.com/2024/2/22/24079928/sony-psvr2-pc-support-2024

Not small numbers either, with/when both leading headsets already shipping to 100,000 new people per month:

Are XP12 compatibile, it is feasible that by 2025 2D will/should be the minority of XP12 users.

OTOH

Laminar have somewhat deprioritised the VR updates for now, so that shift in userbase is highly uncertain.

The reason I focus on aces of thunder is I am absolutely certain Gran Turismo & aces of thunder on PSVR2 will absolutely define the "best of" simulator games by the end of this year.

But it is a huge open question if that plays out similar to during MSFS 2020, where XP grows as a viable alternative, or everyone just switches away from 2D, because XP VR is far from perfect.

One way or another we are in the terminal decline phase of 2D simulation now.

Amen, Brother.

Then XP is very plausibly a ghost town by the end of 2025.....

not really, its one or the other or some mix of both.

VR has been chained so far by headset price ($10s of thousands) and poor perf (all this async warp and older VR drivers)

those chains are already released,

like it or not if a flight sim isnt AAA gamers calling it "incredible, has to be seen to be believed" ala

by the end of the year

it might as well be a cessna repaint for FS9 for all most everyone will care.
