Sun and Snow - Small Town Airport Charm...

Featured Replies

Here is another small airport, I'd got, a while ago, from the Marketplace. Braden Airpark (N43), also known as Easton Airport, is a small airport located about 3.5 miles north of the town of Easton (PA) and is owned by the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority. It's located about 10 miles northeast of the well-known Lehigh University of Bethlehem. The airport's single (18/36) runway is of length 1,956 ft. I do recall seeing signs for both the towns of Easton and Bethlehem, on the eastward Highways, I used to regularly drive on, years ago...to cities on the east coast of U.S.

Find 20 images, below, of what I captured, on the ground, and in the air, in the vicinity of this airport. To experience a bit of winter, I have started you off in wintry weather (first 9 shots) around the airport, with weather been pre-set to "snow", but rest of the pictures are in the sun...🙂.... This region of Pennsylvania is part of the Appalachian Mountain Range, but I've not ventured too far out during the test flight, for this post. Nonetheless, the (immediately) surrounding landscape consisting of valleys, meadows, hills, and green pastures seemed quite scenic and beautiful, from my aerial viewpoint (see screenshots). Also significantly, Easton is where the confluence of Delaware River and Lehigh River occurs. These two rivers, with sunlight glistening on their waters, were clearly visible, as soon as I was airborne (see images).

Regarding the "Hacienda Hotel - Las Vegas", that I'm advertising on my Cessna...🙂..., it was an actual Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas strip that operated for 40 years (1956-1996), until it met its not-so-graceful demise, on Dec. 31, 1996, when the Hotel became part of a televised New Year's Eve special, by being subjected to a spectacular implosion...

Hope you enjoy this collection of pictures.

Thanks for viewing...!

Glad you decided to visit here. Close to where I grew up...Phillipsburg NJ (directly ahead of your Cessna's nose in the 4th shot from the bottom), just across the Delaware River from Easton. When I was a kid, my father would drive me over to Braden's on Sundays to watch the Tri-Pacers, J-3 Cubs, Super Cubs and the occasional Apache do touch-and-go's (Braden was a Piper dealer). Fortunately, the whole MSFS Bing maps rendition of the region, from Easton west to Hershey and Harrisburg, came out beautifully sharp and with wonderfully rendered farmfields, green rolling hills, and small towns. So I'm having a great time doing VFR flights throughout the area.

Nice set, thanks for showing !

cheers 😉

Most fascinating reminiscences, John...I had an inkling you are from around there....🙂...

Anyway, I looked into Braden's history a bit...quite a big history for a small airport...having been founded in the 1930s well before my (local) O'Hare...🙂...You mention (Piper) Tri-Pacers/Cubs etc. and I could indeed feel the nostalgia of Piper around that airport...including the aged Piper hangar I've shown above. Braden was founded in 1938, and Piper got its name from former Taylorcraft, in 1937, not too far from Easton, in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. People often forget that Pennsylvania (Bradford/Lock Haven) are really the roots of today's Piper Company. And regarding my 4th shot from bottom, I'd no idea where I was flying, but surely, I must have come close to the NJ border, if not already in NJ...🙂...

Yes, agree, MSFS has done a nice job of this region's scenery...and I'm glad you're getting to enjoy these familiar territories...🙂...finally in the SIM...

Lock Haven PA, site of the original Piper factory, hosts a "Sentimental Journey" fly-in at the airport every summer. I've been to several in past years.

Save the Date

The 38th Annual Sentimental Journey to Cub Haven Fly-In: Tuesday, June 18 - Saturday June 22, 2024, 9am-10pm.

Featuring Tues - Fri: Greg Koontz and the Alabama Boys Thrilling Airshow.

Let's all turn out to celebrate and `` Kiss the ground the Piper J-3 was built on.''  We want to see a beautiful field of yellow, just like the Good Ole Days. Featured planes: J-2. As always...we welcome and judge all makes & models.

Saturday, June 22th is FREE admission for everyone!

Sounds like a wonderful event...John...at the very site where the (legendary) Cub was born...🙂..I will at least keep a watch for it...

Piper may be in FL now, but I think people around there will surely not let the memories of Piper go away from there...

I was looking more into the N43 scenery, and I see that the scenery developer has thoughtfully added some touches into the interior of that Maintenance building...along with a (reserved) Piper work Corner within the building...🙂...

Thanks, Andy. Yes, I am re-discovering the charming details, in MSFS, usually found only in small town airports...Was quite fond of Orbx's suite of small airports in the previous SIMs...

BTW, I noticed that the N43 Sign screenshot (above) inside the Maintenance Building is not correct ...been folded on itself at the bottom...certainly not the fault of the scenery developer...so, here, I re-post that image again, let's see:
