Post 22nd Beta Build: Cooler GPU Temp on Framerate Gen

Featured Replies

I am still not sure what has been changed by the new beta build. Probably DX12 optimization (or even Fgen), but I did four tests. I didn't intend to do the test but "obsessively" looking at my GPU temp throuh G-Force Performance Overlay during flights, I found that my GPU temp is 4-6 degrees cooler when using DX12-FRGen: i.e, 75-78 to 71-74 degrees. This has never happened before because Framerate Gen always did the otherwise.

This is not only odd but it is a game changer for me. To reconfirm what I saw, did four more tests using DA62 and Miltech Chinook (Beta build) with the same scenarios, heavy rain, heavy clouds, 1500-2500 ft over a densely populated city with 3rd party landmarks, buildings and at least two international airports in the perimeter (most settings are high, not ultra).

Not only the GPU temp, the GPU load is even more significantly lower, it even reached 44-51 at some point. All of these flights have a steady 38 fps (capped 38).

Has anyone noticed any similar improvements?

Well, great news then.

I am locked at 60 FPS at 4k as my monitor can't go any higher, so it is hard for me to see any frame rate improvements as I am maxed out on detail as well (ultra settings), but I certainly don't see any performance hits, and maybe a little cooler and quieter at the same settings like you say.  Obviously no need for me to run FG as it won't add anything for me, except maybe cooler and quieter still, but my 4080 is already silent at around 40-50% load, and about 60-70C.

But these benefits were partly expected, as they said they have made performance improvements, including to memory allocation routines (100 to 200 times faster apparently).

Now never mind all that.  As you have mentioned it, spill the beans on the Chinook!

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

Did the fifth test with stock TBM and the result was obvious, 67-72 (even lower than prev tests) with Frame Gen DX12, 74-76 with DX11. This only happened after the last beta build. Yay

Yes, the CH-47 not far from the full release. The CH-53 will be next 😄

Although I didn't measure my GPU and CPU temps as methodically as @History, I did casually notice a 2-3 degree average reduction in temps after downloading the latest beta. So, yes, I too noticed.

I can confirm that my right knee cap is now only ‘medium rare’ after one hour.

Apart from the lower temp of the GPU, it appears the sim is unstable. I encountered more severe stutters and flickering than ever. Enough of this gpu temp and Fgen s**t, back to dx11 and smooth 36 fps.
