Rudder pedals problem.

Featured Replies

I have had MFG rudder pedals v2 for several years, and I have been very satisfied with the pedals. Lately I have got some problems. After a hard landing or a crash the pedals stop working. They are still visible in FS2020, but when I test rudder and brakes,no movement is recogniced. If I try to start MFG Configurator v2.17.exe, after closing down the simulator, it will not start. I have to close down my pc and restart it. When I then start the sim, the rudder pedals are working as normal again. I am the only one who has reported this  problem to MFG, but they could not help me. Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a solution to avoid it?

I expect that MFG has already suggested and you've already tried the following but I'll put them here just to be sure:

  1. Ensure that USB Selective Suspend is disabled to ensure that Windows can't shut down the USB port.
  2. If you're using USB hub, try bypassing the hub and connect the pedals directly to a USB port on the PC.
  3. If you have the pedals connected directly to the PC, try connecting them to a powered USB hub instead.
  4. Try connecting the rudder pedals using a different USB cable.
  5. Try connecting the rudder pedals to a different USB port (motherboards have multiple USB controllers so moving to a different port can put the device onto a different controller). For example, if the pedals are connected to a port on the back of the PC, try connecting them to a port on the front of the PC if you have one.

Do your other controls stop working, or just the MFGs?

The MFG pedals have no way of knowing that you crashed or landed hard, so they aren't going to "react" to that by disabling themselves.

If you reset the scenario do they start working again?

What are you flying? Is it an advanced addon like PMDG or the Maddog where you might have actually broken the plane and that's why the rudder doesn't work? Or does it have a nosewheel steering switch that needs to be activated (example: the FSW Lear 35 or many military jets).

LOL In just such a moment under the stress of a landing gone bad I am certain I exerted too much force against my pedals from time to time.  I am expecting that he is falling victem to Windows Advanced Power Management as Malaromane pointed out.  To test that theory he should got into Control Panel, Device Manager, Human Interface Devices and determine  which USB Input Device represents the MFG Crosswind Pedals.  He may need to unplug from its USB port, then replug it to see which entry goes away and then comes back.  Then for that device right-click on it, select Properties, and uncheck Allow Windows to manage it to save energy.  Hope that is the winning ticket for him.

Thank you for replays and advices. I will try to check them out. I have moved the usb cable from the powered usb hub to the pc, but no difference. Lately I have only been flying smaller planes like TBM 930 and DA 40, and the pedals behave the same in both planes. My other controls are working as normal.

Before I start to do the USB tests, I decided to test a crash with crash detection set to off. I did test it, and restarted the flight, and everything was normal. I am now in doubt if this is a bug in the sim or in the USB software/hardware.

I thought of that, but I have a set of the MFGs myself and they're solidly built. I think anything short of shooting them wouldn't faze them. 😉

Yeah, that's the leading possibility I think, though if it's really only killing the pedal input when he screws up a landing, that would be slightly odd. You'd have to somehow have the same amount of no rudder input time before the landing each time, but not on landings you don't screw up. Not impossible but fairly difficult to pull off.

You did see that what you quoted started off with LOL, right?  I love my Crosswinds as well.
