COWS da-42-> How is she in VR?

Featured Replies

Anyone using the Cows bird in VR? Are all the switches flipping using vr controllers?

How's the frames performance compared to default craft?

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

Thanks, seen him before but he doesn't use vr controllers, he uses a mouse only.

I think it's pretty rare to use the VR controllers outside of Aerofly or X-Plane... Msfs seems to be pretty hit-or-miss on implementation.

Luckily most of my aircraft have switches that work with the controllers, although knobs can be a chore to deal with if you're in a rush.

I'm using a physical yoke/throttles/pedals to control the aircraft in VR, but for getting around to all the switches and knobs you can't beat the vr controllers for deepening the physical immersion of "being there". It forces you to make those subtle arm, hand and body movements to reach and manipulate things in the cockpit. While using the mouse instead kills the immersion for me as it constantly reinforces the reality of desktop computer into your subconscious 🙂

How do you grab your controller ? I mean, while you're in flight, with the headset on your eyes and the hands on the controls ?

I could put my controller next to the mouse of course, but it wouldn't be very practical to catch 😕

I do understand your remarks regarding the immersion though, so I'm getting kind of curious. I've always used the mouse only so far...

My setup provides me a resting spot for each controller...one to my left and one to my right and I can easily just feel for them as I reach out, although sometimes I use my mixed reality settings so I can see the physical stuff that I need to see more easily (Quest 3).

I fly GA only which means once you takeoff there's not a whole lot of things you'll need them for. I mostly use controllers for setting up the plane at the start for things such as battery, lights, fuel valves, engine start, gen, alt, altimeter setting, radios, headhpones, etc.

Gear and flaps I have bound to my throttle quad buttons since they can often be flaky to use with vr controllers in msfs.

Once in the air I mostly just need them for radio freq changes and setting up approaches in the 750 gps and that touch screen works very easily with the vr controllers.

One might try something like this....

Yea, wish it worked without requiring SteamVR though. SteamVR kills my msfs...Currently I must use VDXR and the OpenXR Toolkit to run msfs well enough in VR with my older machine here. Works pretty nice, much better than in years passed...so I'm not willing to go back to Steam's XR.
