What a Performance Upgrade!

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Just got my new PC and I started to do some testing and all I can say is...WOW! More testing to come showcasing the 7800X3D with the 4070 TI Super.

Test Scenario:

- Fenix A320 V2

- FlyTampa KBOS with VERY bad weather and lots of clouds.

- 1440p Ultra Wide

- LOD 150

- Settings mostly ULTRA with some HIGH.

*For some reason, when using DX12, I get some CTDs...

Test Results:

*Note that these test results are WITHOUT FG.

- Using Frame Gen I get ~110 FPS.

I'm headed for 7800X3D also fairly soon.  But for me, unless somehow 7800X3D solves this, FG is a giant disappointment here and I've summarily disabled it.

Do me a favor if you don't mind:  jump into a complex PMDG/FENIX/FBW if you have those and see what your maximum frame rate is without FG enabled at any complex terminal.  If a new CPU doesn't solve my issues with FG I'm interested to see what kind of a frame rate I can sustain w/o it.  Also, set TLOD at 100 if you will for just this test.

Thanks in advance and congrats on a great new experience!  Happy Flying!

Hi Noel!

Sure but all of the data above is without FG. Does this maybe help?

$2,000 and I sold my old one for $900 so not bad at all. I also had JAJ Technologies build this for me and they did a phenomenal job. I've partnered with them and we will be doing some discounts for anyone interested. Feel free to DM me if you want to learn more.

My bad!  I see you've already done this test thanks!  My guess was I"d see around 45FPS w/o FG in DX12, and that is very close to your findings.

Cheers

Honestly this 7800X3D is a beast, especially paired with a 4070TI Super....with 16gb of VRAM. LOVING the performance.

I'm already pleased with a base locked rate of 34 or 35 with sterling FTV and rarely a hint of stutter anywhere.  Bumping that up to 45 will be amply good enough in terms of rate.  I have RTX4090 FE already installed and it is a fabulous upgrade even w/o FG.  Here was the unexpected wonderful finding w/ this GPU:  I now run my 3440x1440 display with a Render Scale of 160% and this has really improved sharpness beyond compare.  Actually handles RS of 200% no problem but 160% is good enough and leaves headroom for weather etc.

Ah wow, you have a 4090... Your CPU is a HUGE bottleneck...Get the 7800X3D you you will so how massive of an upgrade it will be.

Hi, can you please make a short test at LFPG?

I have very bad performance at this airport (30-35 fps), with or without FSLTL and I wonder if there's an issue with my installation.

Actually with how I run my CPU it really isn't a bottleneck at all and that because I lock the rate to typically about 4 or 5 FPS below it's wide open rate on the ground.  For example, in the FBW320a at FB's lovely KMSP which I just bought, wide open rate at the gate will be around 38FPS, so my lock is set to 34FPS, and consequently had an absolutely flawless departure.   A 7800X3D should bring that up to 44 or so and would allow more traffic and higher TLOD both of which are very low priority for me, esp since using DynamicLOD--haven't bothered w/ AutoFPS.   Could use a little more traffic but TBH this can translate to more holds waiting for traffic to clear.  I think I have live traffic limited 6 or so and static 10.

Last year I upgraded to the 7800x3d & the 7900xt 20 gig video card. Previously it was the I9-9900k & 2080 8 gig. What a nice improvement.

Right but with a 4090 you are shooting yourself in the foot 🙂 I was able to get that type of performance with my i9-9900K & 3080. You can't go wrong with the 7800X3D, I was always Intel and I would have never thought that I would have made the switch. I don't need 100FPS in MSFS either but 60FPS is PERFECT and a big difference for me.

No you weren't my friend--no way you could set RS at 160% and that is the best improvement out of 4090 for me, that and the massive VRAM needed to accommodate high RS levels.  Moreover, you mentioned in your demanding test scenario your system got you an FPS around 45, not 60.  I won't use Frame Generation as its artifacts here are substantial for me:  flickering/strobing tarmacs under dawn/dusk conditions especially, modest glass cockpit artifacts when panning, and screen judder when moving between my two screens.  Those issues combined are showstoppers for FG here.  And quite frankly the real difference between 45 and 60 is paltry at best.  We all have different priorities.

And...no need to try to keep selling 7800X3D I already said I'm going there.
