Missing addons in community folder

Featured Replies

Hello all,

It has been some six months since I have been here, mostly due to the fact that my wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer and had a mastectomy (left breast removed) and has been undergoing Chemo and Radiology which has been a bit of a struggle for both of us.

I have however, finally been able to find time to have a fly.

I loaded up my flightsim and found I had, not surprisingly, a mandatory update. I stopped that and renamed my Community and Official folders and then proceeded with the update. 24 hours later, everything is installed, content manager checked and adjusted/installs completed and the Community/Official folders renamed back to original. I then went to select aircraft and to my horror I have no addons (aircraft or scenery) to be found. I exited the game and checked the community folder to confirm all addons were actually there.

I then exited MSDS and restarted but nothing has changed. I googled extensively and found little except the correct method of installation etc.

I confirm that the aircraft are listed and correctly installed but MSFS cannot find them.

can anybody help me please.

Regards

Tony

christb,

Thanks for your response mate. I have just done what you suggested (5am here) and xbox is telling me that it is up to date.

I have just re entered flight sim and went to content manager .... found the oceania update and am currently installing that.

Further information is that I did a properties search and noted that install Community folder (ie without addons) is approximately 454gb. After renaming my Community folder a Properties search indicates approximately 980gb. This to me, indicates that all my addons are indeed, in my community folder, but are still (note that I have yet to start it up until the Oceania update is installed.

One other thing is that I have I have the start up enhancement mod installed and that from initiation until MSFS is started is fairly quick and that the enhancement is not incorporated, and from that I deduced that the addons are still not being recognised.

My next move, I think, will be to uninstall xbox and reinstall. How I wish xbox was not required given that I do not have, nor ever intend to have, an xbox in my home (no young children helps I guess)

If anyone else can help out with this I would really appreciate the assistance and advice.

Regards

Tony

Sorry for the for the delay in response mate. I have had to take my lovely wife to the doctor (routine checkup and blood test)

Now I have signed out of xbox, rebooted the computer and signed back into xbox. Checked path as correct (Drive D, 2tb NVMe.2 SSD) Proceeded to load MSFS and came up with exactly the same result.

Being quite tired of going round in the same circle, I deleted xbox, reinstalled xbox, uninstalled MSFS, rebooted the computer and then started the reinstallation process, rechecking installation settings (drive and create desktop icon), downloaded MSFS, play and now installing the updates (663GB)

If that does not work, my extraordinary wife has instructions to lock up all the sharp knives LOL.

I shall report success or failure.

Thanks for your help so far mate, you have no idea how much it is appreciated.

christb,

I am extremely happy to report that all is well now.

I uninstalled the programme and rebooted. Followed that with a reinstall which took ages and produced the same result. No enhanced startup and also noted that there was no new community or official folders. Another uninstall and then I did a systematic search for all things "flight simulator" through control panel and deleted the lot,

A new install and instantly noted new community and official folders. it also picked up the su15 update so another long download and install followed by reboot and reload. it picked up another 17.9GB update and this was followed by a resumption to the start page. All enhanced etc so I went into content manager and downloaded the necessary stuff there. It is loading that as I type. I may even get to fly today for the first time since the beginning of December last year. yeeeeaaaaayyyy

Finally all appears good and again I wish to thank you for your help.

Use Addon Linker, store all your addons in a separate folder (better yet, a separate drive) from MSFS, and your addons will be unaffected by anything you do with, or to,  MSFS. This is because AL places only links to addons -- not the addon files per se -- in Community.  Avoids innumerable problems and headaches.

Cobalt,

Thanks for your input Sir.

I have been debating that for some time now and am actually awaiting a 2gb nvme.2 drive for the addons. Cost is the biggest factor though but I am getting close.

Could you possibly point me to a good video tutorial that would explain install procedure for both the addons linker and also the addons themselves. I assume that would include utilities, sceneries and aircraft for the addons and I am wondering if those could be separated into individual folders within addon linker.

Would it be advisable to uninstall MSFS and reinstalling after renaming the community folder, in order to have a clean Community and Official folder with which to start.

I am an aged pensioner struggling with technology in a big way so any simplified explanations would be very advantageous to me and ones that I would be very appreciative for.

Thanks again for your response mate.

Himmelhorse, there are several videos on AL but this one is especially good. The amazing thing about AL is that it's free!

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DevmaZfRf1q8&ved=2ahUKEwj0oezT562GAxXfF1kFHYO5CKQQwqsBegQIEhAG&usg=AOvVaw2AWfbX9TUIXOCgU8qV6lYP

One of AL's best features is that you can organize ALL your addons any way you like, whatever you decide is most convenient. There is absolutely NO need to uninstall MSFS before installing AL. (In my opinion, uninstalling/reinstalling MSFS is done far too often when it is not really necessary -- this should be a last resort!)

The simplest way to get started with AL is to first rename your Community folder to something else such as Community_BAK. and then create a new, empty, Community folder into which your AL-created links will be placed. My suggestion would be that once you have AL installed, you start by just putting in a few of your addons, to get the feel of how it works. It is really easy to use.

Good luck!
