MD-VA-DC Photogrammetry Tour

We begin the tour on the ramp in front of the AOPA headquarters building at Frederik Municipal Airport (KFDK).  After takeoff we do a circuit around the city of Frederick taking in the photogrammetry details which include Ft Detrick and the old town center with its many churches.  The next portion of the route follows the Monocacy River to Lilypons then turns and heads towards Sugarloaf Mountain before changing course to the south and crossing the Potomac River on the way to Leesburg (KJYO).

The next section of the route follows the Potomac River to Great Falls, then passes the David Taylor Model Basin and continues downstream to Key Bridge in Georgetown where we will start our DC sightseeing tour.  A circuit around the campus of Georgetown University then up to Mt St Albans and the National Cathedral.  We continue across the city, over Columbia Heights and Adams Morgan, to Catholic University and the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.   Turning to the east we reach the US National Arboretum – site of the Capitol Columns – then turn southwest toward Capitol Hill.  We fly past the US Capitol building then follow Pennsylvania Avenue towards the White House.  After a circuit around the Washington Monument we cross the Potomac to the Iwo Jima Memorial then turn south over Arlington National Cemetery towards the Air Force Memorial.

After a landing at National Airport (KDCA) we proceed south to Old Town Alexandria then turn east flying over Andrews Air Force Base and on to the Chesapeake Bay and a landing at Deal Maryland (MD22).  Following the western shore of the Chesapeake we arrive at the capitol city of Maryland - Annapolis and the location of the US Naval Academy.  Heading further up the Bay we reach the Patapsco River and entrance to Baltimore Harbor.  We fly past the Francis Scott Key Bridge (the same one that was hit by the container ship Dali and collapsed) and then on to the Port of Baltimore Sea Girt Terminal.  We head north to our next landing at Martin State (KMTN) that was the former plant for the Glenn L. Martin Company.

We head back to Baltimore to the Green Mount Cemetery and then the Pit (two notable locations in The Wire.)  Before leaving Baltimore, we fly to the Inner Harbor then overfly the approach to Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI) on our way to Ft Meade and the NSA.  We overfly the extensive Patuxent Research Refuge before reaching the Goddard Space Flight Center.  We conclude the tour with a landing at College Park Airport (KCGS) the world's oldest continuously operated airport.

Looks lovely!

Be aware that I had to delete MMFQ and DTMB from the flightplan, since MSFS interpreted those as airports in far away places.. 😉

Oops.   I have modified the flightplan waypoints (added "1") to the problematic waypoints which should get translated into USR waypoints in the Garmin.  Updated flightplans HERE.

Have a good flight. I'll be soaking up the sun on the beach. Hopefully I'll see you Sunday. I have heard  there is still major issues with the power grid and in my area it is spotty with power going on and off all day long. There are so many in Houston that are suffering. This state needs to do a  better job for there  citizens  people are dying from the excessive heat and some don't even have water. The hurricane is not really the cause of all this it is our state goverment and there lack of preparness and disregard. Also the electric utility which is contracted by the state don't do enough maintenance on the powerlines with so many trees mixed in with the lines. This is what brought it all down.
