VSYNC, Frame Generation and Popping panels

Featured Replies

hello friends,
im running a 5800X3D with a 4080 for the sim on a 4k TV (60hz)
My settings on MSFS :
DX12
DLSS3 QUALITY
VSYNC OFF
FG ON
on NVCPL :
VSYNC ON
Low Latency Mode : ULTRA
Frames capped at 60fps
Im getting buttersmooth performance (actually unbelievable smooth) with 30fps capped x2 thanks to FG
Problem is when i pop out any panel, frame rate (those 30fps) are divided by 2 and the main thread reachs about 50ms (unplayable)
The only thing that can fix the issue is the remove the capped frames from NVCPL (and indirectly the fixed 60 fps) but i get a lot of tearing.
Any advice on using VSYNC, FG, and popping panels ?
PS : the VSYNC within the sim with FG is broken, as a i get a lot of stutters
Many thanks in advance

For FG Tearing should stop if you activate VSync in NVidia Control panel and make sure VSync is off in the sim. This works on my system as I have a 13900K RTX 4090 4K monitor 60Hz with frames capped in NVCP at 60.

Why FG of capped 60?  Just curious.

Because he uses a 60 hz monitor, but I would personally cap at 57 as it is recommended to have a small buffer of 3 fps to prevent short peaks that exceed the monitor's refresh rate.

Just turn off FG. You have a 4080 which will run the sim at 60fps easy peasy. Also, get rid of DLSS, it's a low quality alternative to the awesome TAA.

I wouldn't use low latency mode in ULTRA, just enabled, but that's me. My advice: Get a GSYNC / FREESYNC monitor, your experience will increase tenfold with that VSYNC off afterwards.

thanks folks

after some reading here are my findings :

- Vsync (in the sim or in NVCPL) is broken with FG (https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/regression-dlss3-frame-generation-with-vsync-broken-in-1-30-9-with-fixed-refresh-rate-monitor/568809)

- Capping the fps (RTSS or insim or in NVCPL) AND popping instruments will divide those capped fps into each monitor

- FG and non Gsync/Freesync monitor is useless

i ended up capping my fps into 30 and use LOSS LESS SCALING software to double my frame rate

thanks for your help

Sure I get that. But why FG at 60 FPS? A 4080 should more than produce that without FG and the associated artifacts of FG.

Even a 4080 isn't going to get 60 FPS in all situations like large airports, with large amounts of AI and a resource intensive add-on like PMDG...

Even a RTX 4090 won’t.
