You can disable the 2nd CCD (just make sure EXPO is not enabled at the time … enable EXPO after disable of 2nd CCD) from UEFI … this will ensure that ONLY the CCD with the 3D cache will be operating and no need for any Game Bar setup.  Yes, you lose 1/2 your core count but you still retain all the cache now dedicated to just those 8 cores.  You will see a good increase in performance.

I didn't know that so thanks. I do prefer to have the 2nd CCD enabled because there are a lot of processes that can be offloaded to those non 3D cache cores. I want games using the 3D cache and everything else using the other cores.

I made a thread on this in the MSFS forum, could be useful for added details.

My AMD 9950X is very impressive now that Microsoft fixed Win11 AMD handicap.  Still waiting for good motherboard and the X870E motherboards … ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte will be releasing to retail next week I believe.  Then the wait for AMD RNA4 or nVidia 5090 … maybe I’ll be able to sustain 60 FPS at 8K res.

Im curious as i have my 7950 X3d ccd set to cache and is working fine.

Should it be set to driver?

Also i am thinking of selling my cpu to upgrade to 9950X3d

Will it fit in my x670 e f mobo?

Thanks

Mike

If it’s working fine you don’t have to change anything in the bios.

enter the BIOS and change CPPC from auto to driver

This was not necessary after I updated the BIOS on my Gigabyte X670 AORUS ELITE AX. In fact, it caused a boot failure.

Pending your motherboard manufacturer, you might need to disable EXPO profile before making changes to the core priority settings in UEFI.

If you haven’t made any UEFI changes for core priority, then Win11 should now finally be working correctly for AMD CPUs … maybe 😉. Test … I don’t trust Microsoft at all.

If upgrading to the 9950X, suggest you get the newer X870E chipset motherboards, same AM5 socket and DDR5 support but a lot more PCIe bandwidth to play with.

I’ll wait on a complete new build as I plan to include nVidia 5090 … latest price is speculated at $2500 - $3200 … saw a low ball price at $1800 speculation but I think that would be more wishful thinking than reality … even more so since nVidia plan to limit supply of 5090 so as to allow resellers more profit.
