7950X3D fix for core parking…

Featured Replies

I ran into a video talking about core parking, which really didn’t mean much to me at first. After watching it i realized that my 7950X3D might have this problem. Basically the 7950X3D has one half of the CPU with the extra cache and one half without it. Core parking showed the half with the extra cache really wasn’t being used in gaming, and the CPU was prioritizing the slightly faster non cache cores. In essence my MSFS rig wasn’t using the key benefits of the CPU. This also explains why the 7950X3D was not as fast in some benchmarks relative to the 7800X3D. That only makes sense if you conclude the cached cores really weren’t doing much. I was able to confirm that my cached cores were secondary and not really carrying the load in games, and i got it sorted out. MSFS is much smoother now.

Are you using the Xbox Game bar App?
AFAIK it should make sure the best cores are used and activates core parking when games are active. Perhaps this link explains it more.

Yep, that was in use and still the good cores were not being used. They are now.

Process Lasso was my answer to this, and the easiest way I could ensure MSFS was running on cores 0-7. I allocate MSFS to the X3D cores and everything else (all the other programs I run alongside MSFS) to cores 8-15.

Process Lasso is free to try if you want 🙂

Did you do both of the fixes or just one of them? If so? Which one?

Are you seeing performance increases in msfs?

Yes i am. Seems smoother and fps steady at 60 in 4K at KLAX with lots of AI.

It's my understanding that Windows itself, as opposed to Windows apps, always runs on core 0. And therefore MSFS should be assigned away from core 0. But I've only seen this mentioned in one YT video, and I haven't tried this.

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

For the record, core parking schemes which are like the one in the video in message #1 above, do not apply to 5800X3D or 7800X3D. And of course not to non X3D cpus. Jayz2Cents posted a message under the video explaining this.

Yes. That is why I titled this thread only referencing the 7950X3D.

It's repeated a lot here that Windows runs on core 0, but Windows will run on any available core.

Thank you!!👍

You can disable the 2nd CCD (just make sure EXPO is not enabled at the time … enable EXPO after disable of 2nd CCD) from UEFI … this will ensure that ONLY the CCD with the 3D cache will be operating and no need for any Game Bar setup.  Yes, you lose 1/2 your core count but you still retain all the cache now dedicated to just those 8 cores.  You will see a good increase in performance.
