Help with ORBX sceneries

Featured Replies

Hello

Is it better to install scenery in the Orbx library or in P3D folder.

London city downloaded in the library did not show up. When installed in P3D it worked.

All my Obx open lc are greyed out and checked marked in p3d scenery library is it normal. Should I install them in the P3D folder?

Thanks

I have used the Orbx library approach since I wanted to utilize my extra drive, so all my Orbx stuff is located on a different drive outside the main sim folder and drive however there is no necessity to do this.

The ability to use the Library option depends upon the sim version you have installed. For P3D v1,and v2 it cannot be used but later versions v4, v5 are able to use this option. I am not sure about v3 and I would assume v6 has that capability.

If you are using one of the compatible sim versions it should be possible to use the Library option.

If your Library is recognized by Orbx but its not writing any new sceneries there, I would run the Sync simulator option from Orbx Central.

You should be able to save Global Base and OpenLCs in the Library.

I noticed some issues with orbx sceneries when installed into libraries.

Vertical shoreline waves for example, which I traced to effects files that were not updated to suit P3D.

When installed into the Sim itself the issue tends to not occur due to overwriting e.g. all effects are going to the P3D effects folder and thus older effects files are overwritten, however when stored in a library the effects files are not overwritten and whatever the scenery has installed in its library is used.

The same type of issue will occur for various airports etc. as many sceneries tend to assume certain files will exist in the main P3D folder, whereas when installed into a library those files will not exist in the P3d root.

The issue falls back to FSX days which didn't allow library type addins and Orbx (and other dev crews) scrimping on testing in full library based installations.

I have reported such items to Orbx as I came across them, maybe they resolved, maybe they didn't.

Cheers
