Water unreal at altitude?

Featured Replies

I feel that the 2x water in FSX just does not look right when at altitude - say above 10,000ft. In spring/summer the textures are too bright and waves are unrealistic and even appear on inland lakes and rivers. In some ways the 1x water still looks more realistic once in the air, but again tends to be too bright and doesn't tone in with the land. I was just wondering what others views are, whether there is anything that can be done to reduce the effects / colours of 2x, or whether there are any addons, for FS9 or FSX, that still work in FSX and vastly improve the look and feel of seas, rivers and lakes.Any screenshots from anyone who has implemented any updates would be appreciated. Thanks in advance,Regards,Stuart

I agree-water has a long ways to go. But then it is incredibly hard to do, as it can look completely different depending on the time of day, amount of wind, amount of plankton etc.I have found using fex textures help-but that you really have to change depending on where flying. For flying over inland lakes like the area I live-I use the "green" texture-and then the inland lakes and rivers look very realistic. For over ocean/coastal areas I have to go back to the blueish textures. To be fair though-there are times that it does look great-and water is one of the improvements that dx10 preview offers-though not enough to make me want to run the sim in it.http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/1b5baf...b9f427f694g.jpgMy blog:http://geofageofa.spaces.live.com/

I've looked at FEX, but am waiting to see what Real Environment X is like when it's released.I think I had read somewhere on a forum that one of the FS9 water environment freeware upgrades can be used in FSX and that it vastly improves the 1x textures (at least - not sure about 2x though), and wondered whether anyone has experience of this and perhaps can show some screenshots / advise what was done to effect the upgrade.Cheers,Stuart

I use Low 2X setting with FEX and the water is great, not to mention the clouds that are part of it. For me, I wouldn't fly without it now.

I agree. I use 1x water as well.
