November 9, 20241 yr I've been meaning to fly Niki Lauda's 737 here since a long while. Though not a fan of Racing myself, I've once visited the Indy 500 event at the Indianapolis Speedway at the invitation of a friend (all I recall is the deafening sound from the race cars and their high-powered engines...🙂...). Anyway, it's hard to have not noticed the (legendary) racing achievements of Niki Lauda in the 1980s...in the Grand Prix and Formula One races. Moreover, the Austrian airline, Lauda Air, founded by Niki Lauda, has been always one of my favorite airlines to fly in the past SIMs. If you're fan of the 737 series, you must have flown Lauda Air, since it flew all the 737 variants (-200 through -800, with the sole exception of -500), with a very distinctive livery. After being in operation for about ~25 years, Lauda Air eventually got merged with Austrian Airlines, and all its aircraft (including the 737-600 you see below) would be transferred to the possession of Austrian Airlines. For this post, I've selected two of Lauda Air's operating bases, Graz/LOWG and Vienna/LOWW, to conduct a short flight of about ~100 miles. I depart from Graz, lifting off from Rwy 34C, but instead of tracking the SimBrief suggested Flight Plan (See Routes on the EFB and the ND, in shot #1), northeast towards Vienna, staying clear of the Austrian Alps; at this Pilot's discretion...🙂..., I've continued straight out northward along the Rwy to skirt the eastern foothills of the Austrian Alps. Eventually, I've turned eastward to land on LOWW/Vienna ILS Runway 11. Niki Lauda's incredible life spanned from the racetrack to the runway, and he was a keen Pilot himself. Hope you enjoy this collection of images of the Lauda Air 737-600, (OE-LNM) "Albert Einstein", giving me company on my short trip today, as I fly to Niki Lauda's birthplace city, Vienna. Thanks for viewing...!
