Install problem - scenery.cfg error

Featured Replies

Hello,I am trying to reinstall FSX AGAIN. After install, on startup, I get a Scenery.cfg error that says it cannot find a local scenery file(KCVG from Imagesim at item 0002). It is NOT in the installed scenery.cfg. I checked the file and the reported error is not correct as to the Scenery.cfg installed in the FSX install location. I have also checked my computer and cannot find another Scenery.cfg except in my FS9 install.Anyone seen this before? Thanks in advance,Ron SagelNEAR KCHS

When you uninstalled FSX, you probably didn't delete the FSX folders before reinstalling. Therefore, your old scenery.cfg remained and is now causing you problems. There are two scenery.cfg's for FSX. One is in the main FSX folder (C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesMicrosoft Flight Simulator X). That one is not used by FSX but should remain in your main FSX folder. The other one is located in C:Program DataFSX (for Vista users). This is the one that is used by FSX and the one you can edit to remove that offending item. Hope this helps.Best regards,Jim

Actually, the copy in the root folder is used by FSX as a "template" from which to build a new one in the "Username's" folder... ;)

"Actually, the copy in the root folder is used by FSX as a "template" from which to build a new one in the "Username's" folder... ;)"You may be right Bill but I cannot find a scenery.cfg in any of my User accounts (I have my system set to show all hidden folders/files). I believe I read somewhere that they moved the scenery.cfg to Program Data/FSX in SP2. Anyway, that's where mine's located!Best regards,Jim

On my XP system, scenery.cfg (that actually is used) is in the "All Usersapplication data" folder tree, NOT my logon username folder tree.I'm not sure if there was a custom install option for FSX to "install for all users" or "install just for me". If there was, I always "install for all users" which may be why the scenery.cfg file is in the "All Users" appdata for me.dopn't know about Vista.scott s..
