GEX? You gotta be kidding me!

Featured Replies

Er... nice screenshot, but someone posted comparisonshots of FSX default, FSX with UTX and FSX with GEX. But I can't find the link... I though he linked them somewhere on simforums... Anyway, those shots show clear differences: the textures up closed have more detail and also in the distance it seems as if there is more to see. I still find the differences not incredibly huge, though: again, I wonder if I would notice the difference without comparing screenshots (I layered the shots in Photoshop to clearly see the difference...!), but it does look better, so that idea alone is enough for me. Yeah, Im not easy to please. ;)

J,>>Yes, I indeed could see the differences, but to me they weren't big enough. The thing is that I like to see the difference while flying, not while comparing screenshots. After installing UTX the FS-world had really changed a LOT.<. I posted some screenshots [a href=http://www.exmixer.com/QuickGEXpage/ComparisonNew.shtml]here[/a], others have done the same here and elsewhere. The reason I did the pics in the first place was for me, because I also couldn't really see an obvious difference, GEX and then GEX Enhanced. As you said, with UTX, ain't no mistaking that something is seriously different (and better usually). Same with MegaScenery X SoCal...it's a different sim. For me, no complaints at all as regards the moderate cost for GEX, is it the killer FSX app? Beats me .jb[a href=http://exmixer.com/fs.shtml]FS9/FSX stuff[/a] Full specs in the link

The person that posted those images has a systemn which has a hard time keeping the ground textures sharp and unblurred so the compares are not really as good as they should be and it can be hard to see the fine detailed differences as my shot above do show and look nothing like original GEX for clarity and depth, or Default FSXalthough I do commend them for taking the time to put it together! :)

Ha, this is REALLY funny! I just posted in my reaction to NickN that I saw some screenshots that showed me GEX is better then default FSX, but I couldn't find them... And here you are! Your link is the one I was talking about! :( Now it's not really clear to me if you made them to show there is NOT a lot of difference, but they show me differences which made me think 'Aha, yes...'. Indeed it's not always something I would really notice by simply flying around, but it IS better. Wonder if NickN thinks the shots do GEX any justice (he said my computer wasn't showing GEX not good enough back then, and I'd like to know what he thinks about these shots!)But I also think that the cost of GEX is moderate enough to buy it (the upcoming Europe, that is): it's not as revolutionary as something like UTX, and certainly not the killer FSX app, but it is an enhancement nonetheless.

Hahahaha, lots of crossposting here! :) Okay, you already answered my question, NickN (see post #34)!Anyway, even though the shots aren't that good (apparently...), they DID show me enough. And since my computer is doing a slightly better job now than it did 'way back then' I suppose I'll be in for a treat when GEX Europe will be released. So all is fine in the end, NickN. Your perseverance payed off! ;)

>Post your *exact* settings for FSX>and your vid card, I'd be more than happy to correct any error>I may have made.OMG Here we go... Be prepared for a lot of links and a LOT of information that NickN has posted on another forum...! I'll have a seat, take some coffee and enjoy the discussion from a distance. ;)

Unfortunately I dont have time to into a complete rundown.. Perhaps laterYes, your shots if you look at them are blurred.I was in no way trying to cut down the service of posting the images however if you look at mine above or even any of them in the screenshot forum over where GEX resides, you see quite clearly just about every detail. When I have time I will post hardware and settings... right now i am testing a patch, just took a break It is, in a nutshell a DDR3 2000 @ QX6700 3.6gig on a GTX clocked past ultra specs, and, a set of WD raptors in RAID 0 on a professional RAID controller card which has its own on-card 533Mhz memory:)

Nick,>>Unfortunately I dont have time to into a complete rundown.. Perhaps later. Yes, your shots if you look at them are blurred.<. I agree, the shots do look blurred, and I didn't kill 'em with the .jpg compression, 90% quality, 1920x1200 with [a href='http://www.irfanview.net/]IrfanView' 4.10[/a]. After doing all of 'em I just wanted to fly the thing, not get in to tweak mode. If you do get the time, it'd be cool if you could post your settings, especially as regards the vid card and the FSX Scenery settings. J asked something to the effect of had I posted the screenshots to show that GEXn wasn't very good. Nope, not, etc. When I find out how to utilize my fairly serious hardware to better advantage those screenies will change in the proverbial NY minute .Best,jb[a href=http://exmixer.com/fs.shtml]FS9/FSX stuff[/a]

Advice... There you go, exmixer! (And thanks, NickN, for living up to my expectations. ;) ) Well, exmixer, reading all this won't be done in that proverbial NY minute...! :(

Nick,Thanks for taking the time to post the links and extra info. I'm betting new and improved screenshots will appear soon .jb[a href=http://exmixer.com/fs.shtml]FS9/FSX stuff[/a]Falcon Northwest Mach VIntel C2D Extreme X6800EVGA 680i4 GB Corsair Twin2Xx2048-8500C5BFG 8800GTXDual-boot XPPro/Vista Ult.Full specs in the link above
