Best installation option for 24?

Featured Replies

So now that people have had some time to better understand 2020 and 2024 together what would people recommend?

I have the option of "either" dual booting to a separate windows instance and installing FS2024 on it's own OS which would mean clean registry settings, different driver settings etc.

"OR"

I also have ample HDD space to just install 2024 it in my current Windows install alongside 2020 and all my add-ons with their current registry entries, driver settings etc.  Either way I have a free 1TB M.2 drive.

My 2020 Community folder is on a separate drive altogether so in theory the first option of dual booting would still have access to the drive and all my files if I needed to point to them for any reason but hypothetically if developer gives a discount for an upgrade that does a registry check for a prior version for example it wouldn't be there in the first option...

Is there a big pro v con with one vs the other?

I think you may be making this more complicated than need be...  2020 and 2024 can co-exist just fine on the same drive or different drives... does not matter.  No need for dual boot for sure.

I would install 2024 in its default location.. it does not take up much space, less that 50 GB.

The Content (Official and Community folders) can be on any drive and can get big over time, just like with 2020.

Thanks Bert, I figured I was over complicating.  I used to have an OS for P3D an OS for MSFS and an OS for all my Steam games LOL.

Looks like I can go to just 2 to keep my all the other garbage that I install with Steam from impacting my MSFS install.

In my opinion the best way to have both on the system is,

2020: Separate drive from windows, dedicated SSD e.g D:\MSFS2020

2024: C:\Recycle Bin
