FS24: Cirrus Vison Jet...Sion to Innsbruck...River to River

Featured Replies

First of all, after the hundreds of times I've now seen (or been forced to see) the opening sequence of the MSFS2024 launch video as our game every time initiates itself on our screen (while loading languages and activating various packages etc.), I do not seem to mind it now...🙂...Though (monotonously) repetitive, it's short and sweet with glimpses of interesting characters and activities being displayed in quick motion. You know...e.g., the Air France-KLM (blue) A330 jetliner shining in the twilight, patiently waiting on the apron for the crew walking towards it, as the passengers are seen hurrying through a Jet Bridge, and subsequently as the a/c lifts off the runway...gracefully retracting its under-carriage; or the SKY ROCKET Media (tail dragger) XCub yanking that banner from the grass field up above into the blue sky, proclaiming "The Sky is Not the Limit..." whatever that means. I think, for now, it means NOT really going beyond the sky to outer space, but rather various (other) activities possible within the SIM on the earth itself...Oh well...However, I have been a bit struck by what follows this bit of aerial advertisement...that snippet starring a stern-looking, young business Moghul, clad in all-pink, walking briskly and boldly towards a Cirrus Vision SF50 G2 Jet, being accompanied by another stern individual, who is possibly the bodyguard or maybe the pilot...🙂...excuse me, I cannot tell from the momentary glimpses I catch, before the video switches instantly to the daring "Search and Rescue" mission in the rough seas...🙂...BTW, in the launch video you cannot miss on the Cirrus Jet, the labels "G2" prominently type-faced at many places on the fuselage (also seen in my images below).

I have been meaning to fly that Cirrus Vision Jet from day one (Nov. 20 for me) ever since I caught sight of it on my desktop (I mean my TV-desktop because I'm on Xbox...🙂...), but I never got to it till now. After all, only 10 days have passed since...though it seems like a month or two...with all the growing pains...

So, here we go, as I take this cute little jet on a test-run here for this post, subjecting it to one of the most challenging circumstances imaginable...🙂...from deep inside the Sion Valley of Switzerland (actually it's part of the Rhône River Valley) which region is no stranger to most of us from past SIMs. I lift off LSGS/Sion airport at 1,400 ft elevation, following the route along and up the valley (opposite to the downward flowing Rhône River; you may spot it below), as I climb swiftly and continuously to 15,000 ft to get clear of those majestic but dangerous Swiss Alps mountains. As the mountains try to box me in...🙂...and I finally run out of the comfort zone of the valley, I begin to fly above and across the snow-covered high Alps, heading towards and beyond the border of Austria and the Austrian Alps.

This Cirrus vision Jet is no Honda Jet that we know so well in MSFS, but we must appreciate the fact that unlike the Honda Jet, it's powered by only one jet engine (extremely rare to come across such an aircraft). I was reading a bit about it today, "When you are the only company to offer a single-engine jet in the general aviation industry, what do you do for an encore? You make it go higher, fly farther, be quieter and instill the latest and greatest technology. Cirrus Aircraft achieved each of these in the release of its second-generation Vision Jet known as the “G2.”

And yes, this G2 variant is the one I'm flying today for this post (rendered for us by Microsoft/Flight FX). The G2 Vision is powered by a small but powerful (FJ33-5A turbofan engine), built by Williams International. This (somewhat) little known aviation company, located in Pontiac, Michigan, and founded by an ex-Chrysler Turbine Engineer (Sam Wiliams) is actually the world leader in the development, manufacture, and support of (small) gas turbine engines, including the curious fact that the "Williams WR19" also of this maker is the world's smallest turbofan powerplant. No wonder...this Cirrus G2 here effortlessly lifted me up above these high Alps without any issues at all. I certainly felt very safe...🙂...while looking down gingerly at the snow-topped mountain ranges gliding by just below my aircraft... (see images) ...

Innsbruck (LOWI), at 1,900 ft elevation, sits in a broad valley itself on River Inn (you may try to spot the river below). For landing, I've attempted to use the Innsbruck, LOWI (GNSS) RNAV Rwy 08 approach (i.e., eastward, along the direction of my arrival). I've activated the approach on the G2's Garmin 3000 avionics suite but I failed (somewhat) to maintain the (optimum) vertical profile in the final phase during a sharp turn (fault of the aviator, I would say, rather than the airplane). Though I have managed to land without any serious mishap, I surely need to practice this challenging approach again some time. Also, the default LOWI scenery seems not very good, so, a better (payware) version is highly desirable, as already seen and posted here by other (fellow) flyers...

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this collection of pictures from my short but adventurous trip today of only about 200 miles, as I've challenged the high Alps (from the comfort of my Cirrus SF50 G2 Vision Jet) ...🙂...getting up close to the majestic Alps of two countries, Switzerland and Austria, and moreover, this smart-looking airplane was fun to fly...

Thanks for viewing...!

Happy flying yourselves, whatever SIM you're enjoying at the moment...FS9 through MSFS2024...🙂...!

John and pmplayer:

Appreciated the comments...and glad you liked it... (I need to do that RNAV Rwy 08 at LOWI one more time...correctly...🙂...it's bit of a challenge in the last 2-3 miles...)

Great shots, P_7878. But I am a bit disappointed with the mountain textures, they look worse than in FS2020.

Any attempt to stretch fuel is guaranteed to increase headwinds

My specs: AMD Radeon RX6700XT, AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, 32GB RAM, 34" monitor, screen resolution: 2560x1080

Great set P_7878, #4 is my favourite shot. There is such a little Cirrus Jet in Xplane since years, nice to fly.

PC: Ryzen 7 3700x AM4, 16 GB RAM, RTX 3060 12GB, Storage SSD 3TB, HDD 8TB, USB 8TB, 2 Screens, Win10-64

SIMs: FSX SE, P3d 3.4/4.5/6.1, Xplane 10/11/12, MSFS 2020/24, Aerofly FS 4

Thanks, bernd. Agree, I have not yet come to grips with this mode of "All Streaming" in MSFS2024...which might be impacting performance for my case, especially in Xbox. The mountains, that you know I've visited plenty...🙂... in MSFS2020, did look better. BTW, bernd, even aircraft, not just scenery, are also "Streamed" in FS2024, it seems. Yesterday, I noticed that the PMDG 737-600, which I can finally get to fly in FS2024, is actually streamed in...it caused a few pauses/freezes for me, never experienced before in MSFS2020...we'll see...

Appreciated the comment, Andreas. Glad you liked the pics. Yes, to fly an airplane we've known (and loved) since a long time in our hobby, but in a new SIM, is indeed great fun...Cheers...!

Beautiful shots! 😉

Many thanks, Will. Glad you liked these pictures of my Vision Jet flying over the Alps...🙂...

BTW, this post was inspired by bits of the MSFS2024 launch video, starring that clad-in-pink (young) business tycoon...🙂...zooming out in his personal Vision Jet over (similar) snowy mountains ...complete with a pilot, and a bodyguard I think...🙂...

I know, Will, you're not into FS2024 yet...
