I ended up sticking with Windows XP Home SP2 and did NOT migrate to Vista. Glad I didn't wait for XP, SP3, I'd still be waiting. I reinstalled the OS, then put FSX all by itself on it's own hard drive, good call on that, it's one of Nick's tricks. Unfortunately, it was the only Nick tweak that worked for me. I tried O&O Defrag, and because I didn't slipstream a more recent version of SP2, it crashed my entire installation and I was not going to go back and do it all over again, yet a 3rd boring time, sorry. Instead, based on my experience with PerfectDisk, useless, I tried Ultimate Defrag 2008 based on Hardware forum threads for the suggestion . Wow! It worked great and the improvement in file loads and overall performance was huge. VERY interestingly, the publisher, Disk Trix. mentions performance enhancements for games such as "flight simulators" in some of its tutorials as goals. At any rate, I'm very pleased with that purchase, I had no idea that new installations could be so befuddled. I tried NHancer for my Nvidia 174.XX from 3D guru. Did not help, made my performance much worse in fact, so I dumped that idea. Conclusively, my original frustration with blue screenies and CTDs was entirely due to corrupted video drivers and a very old Windows XP installation, beyond repair. I have flown for hours now, no sign of any video problems with my NVidia 8800 GTS. It was never the card's fault and whereas nobody gets to use the sliders all the way to the right, I get very good performance now and am happy. Thank you all for your contributory opinions and suggestions!PS - Want a superb disk image/file backup program? Try Acronis True Image, the thing is a veritable disk manage system, I love it.Randy Jura, KPDX

Randy that's because some of the owners or major domos at DiskTrix are FS developers. Someone posted about that here one time, but I can't remember much about it.RhettE8500, Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, ASUS P5E3 Premium, BFG 8800GTX 756 (nVidia 169 WHQL), 4gb DDR3 1600 Patriot Cas7 7-7-7-20 (2T), PC Power 750, WD 150gb 10000rpm Raptor, Seagate 500gb, Silverstone TJ09 case, Vista Ultimate 64

Well, that is interesting for sure. At any rate, I'm happy with the program, that is for certain.Randy Jura, KPDX
