PMDG 777/737 Low FPS with waypoints

Featured Replies

Hello guys, I am having issues with the PMDG 777/737 where my fps would dip below 25 (on cruise btw) for both aircraft when I have the MFD with waypoints. If I change to VOR or switch to EICAS it's ok. I know it has to calculate the route and all that fancy stuff, but I'm not having issues with the 747. And another thing, I'm having micro stutters, where fps would dip below 20 every 2 seconds, even if it's at 60. My specs aren't too bad either and they're period correct for P3D v4.
GTX 1080, ryzen 7 3800xt OC to 4.2ghz up to 4.7 and 16GB ram. P3D is in a M.2 SSD. I never have issues with any other games I play. Thank you!

🤔

for now, cheers

I too never have any issues with other *games* I play, that said I'm easily able to max out P3D's GFX card, CPU and ram usage with resultant stutters and frame rate drops.

If you're achieving 60 fps in selected scenarios then it sounds like you're not limiting P3D's frame rate, where unfortunately leaving P3D to run at the max fps achievable would also tend to result in overloading, which in turn would typically induce stutters and reduced frame rates.

Perhaps monitor GPU, CPU and ram usage when such fps problems occur to determine if hardware overloading is matching the reported issues, such was suggested in your previous low fps thread.

Could also be the result of loading points, P3Dv4.5 (and lower) wasn't that great at minimising the effects of loading points which has been quite improved in P3d v5 (not that v5 didn't come with it's own issues).

I also stand by my previous post here.

Cheers

Concur with Rogen, I set my Titan X at max 30 FPS.  It is dumb to set it much higher than the human eye can detect which is 24 frames per second.

Setting the sim to limit at 30 fps is a good all round figure to use, I use RivaTuner Statistics Server, although it's possible to use the NVidia control panel/app to do the same given we want P3D to remain at unlimited internally where the difference  when running at 60 fps is very noticeable and a much smoother overall result.

As to the human eye having a max detection of 24 fps, this is a bit of a misnomer as the reason films were originally produced at 24 fps was simply that it was the slowest rate at which sound could be recorded onto film and thus saved a considerable amount of money as compared to the actual film usage cost when filming at a higher rate e.g. 30 fps (film, development and print copies being quite expensive - see the original movie of "Clerks", it's 16mm BW film chosen because the producer couldn't afford 35mm colour).

Video on the other hand was generally tied to the PAL or NTSC broadcast rates of 25 fps (PAL) or 29.97 fps (NTSC) where interlacing was applied as a form of broadcast compression.

Nowadays such limits and film expenses no longer apply, although high (4/8)K cameras and associated processing gear/software do cost many $$$.

P3D itself when running at 60 fps or higher is quite the improvement and below is a short vid of panning @ 60 fps where P3D4.5 is locked at 30 fps externally, with Lossless scaling providing frame generation to 60 fps with vsync at a 60 hz screen mode, a very smooth result, great for panning in the VC and flying in general.

Choose full screen and the 1440p60HD frame for the best viewing result which also matches P3D's actual video settings.

Cheers
