March 8, 20251 yr So, yesterday I purchased Lossless Scaling, since I had to install Steam to try a Head Tracker trial ( Beam Eyetracker ). This version is surely more complete than the first I had seen youtubes about. I decided to try it over Lisbon, Madrid, Paris and NY, increasing the Graphics settings to their extremes, and was puzzled by the outcome ! I'm using Map Enhancement Pro with Apple textures, xEnviro 1.34 and my tests were run with the Zibo 738, the Toliss A319 and the default C172 1000. WOW! But at times, specially over NY, I noticed that I was on a 3060 Ti with just 8GB VRAM, and a 5600x CPU, so, I reverted to my usual settings and made two experiments, the first with factor 2x and FPS set to 30 through Nvidia Inspector (Nvi) (or the App), and then 3x factor and max FPS set to 20 in NvI or the App... On both occasions I got a smooth 60 FPS. I didn't need that much, but setting 15 FPS and 2x or even 10 FPS and 3x to get 30 FPS would probably cause problems with the FM ? This is my first question to you : 1) If I throttle the max FPS through the Nvidia App or Nvidia Inspector to something like 15 or even 10, will that affect the X-Plane FM, which is supposedly affected when it's built in rendering drops to bellow 20 FPS, or can I assume that if the final FPS (30 with a factor of 2x or 3x) provided by Losselss will be the reference? 2) I don't use VSync in either X-Plane settings or the Nvidia App or Nvidia Inspector. I limit the FPS in Nvi or the App to 30, but now Lossless itself offers options for Vsync, Vsync 1/2, Vsync 1/3... ? What does it do, for instance if I opt for Vsync 1/2 given that my monitor is 60Hz? 2.1) Does it apply to the final FPS figure so that if I set 30 FPS max through Nvidia Inspector, and then a 2x factor through Lossless and then Vsync 1/2 through Lossless the end result is going to be 30 FPS or... 2.2) Does it apply Vsync 1/2 to the original FPS first, so that if I simply do not limit the FPS by using Vsync in game or through Nvidia Inspector or limiting the FPS through Nvidia Inspector, it applies it first before doing it's scaling thing, resulting in that case in the same 30 FPS ? Any hints welcome, less the loss 🙂 Edited March 8, 20251 yr by jcomm Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
March 8, 20251 yr With regard to flight model, to be sure you could increase the "flight model per frame" value so that even setting low FPS in the nVidia settings, the actual flight model frequency is high enough. "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
March 9, 20251 yr Author Well, I never EVER !!! had X-Plane in any of the versions I have used since I purchased it for the first time (Xp7), running so nice and smoooooth !!!! The setup has been built thanks to suggestions from some of you, watching youtubes, reading through Forum threads, ... But the biggest contribution I have got regarding performance IS "Lossless Scaling". I am simply puzzled with the results, either with upscaling or through it's own Frame Generation mode. I purchased Lossless this weekend, set it up by creating a custom profile for X-plane 12, and the first experiences were run with the upscaling mode. They provided me with outstanding performance and visual quality, even with the mid/high settings I have under the "Graphics" menu and with all of the following : - Map Enhancement Pro (an Ortho-based terrain enhancement, similar to Auto-Ortho which I also used, but IMO even better) - All SimHeaven regions; - xEnviro 1.34, which I alternate with ActiveSky Xp12 or default Xp12 Real Weather; - JustFlight Traffic Global; - ITC Light mod for Xp12; Using the upscaling mode I obtained similar performance and rendering quality with either setting FPS limited to 10 by Riva Tuner or Nvidia Inspector and then a factor of 3x in Lossless, or 15 and a factor of 2x, to get 30 FPS, but then I pushed it towards the never possible before stable 60 FPS by limiting the frames to 30 and setting the scaling factor to 2x. Today after watching the video linked bellow I decided to give Lossless Frame Generation mode a try, and set the fps again to max 30 FPS through Riva Tuner and then applied a factor of 2x in Lossless. I get those 60 fps and the GPU and CPU appear to be even less affected than with pure scaling. But all of these results have provided a truly rewarding experience and a smoothness and display quality that I had never experienced before. I guess I will be able to obtain similar results with FS 2024 but I haven't had the time to even start it since more than a week 🙂 Guys! I really think you should give Lossless a try ! March 10, 20251 yr Author Many moons ago a friend gave me his TrackIR, sent from Brasil !!! I used it for more than 5 years until it stopped working after a softwsre update. It was excellent, although I didn't like having to use a hat or a headphone for the light bulbs 😕 Som years ago I purchased EdTracker Pro, but it is only 3 DOF. With Beam Tracker I have 6 DOF, and after having tried it in the demonstration version using an inexpensive webcam, I decided to purchase a full license, and also a FullHD 30 FPS webcam, and for €90 total I now have a very nice solution, and gained a webcam, which I didn't have in my home desktop 🙂 So far very well impressed the overall quality and performance f the solution, and I don't have to wear a hat or headphones 🙂 Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
