March 20, 20251 yr Hi After so many ctd's and not finding a solution, I remember reading somewhere that installing FSX not in the default location helped resolve the issue. Right now it's installed in C/program files (x86)/steam/steamaps/common/fsx. My D drive has much more space available than in C. Would that help? Would there a problem with addons- scenery and aircraft? Eytan Ornstein
March 21, 20251 yr There can be a problem with FSX being installed in the default Program Files (x86) directory and it has to do with Windows Vista and later versions protecting files in the Program Files directory from alteration. What I did with my Windows 10 computer is to install FSX on my C drive, but in a directory of my own creation. So for me, FSX (now Steam Edition) is located in C:/Games and Sims, a directory that I made just for my games and sims. You can install FSX on a drive other than the C drive, but be aware that some files must be placed on the C drive and Windows is going to protect that Program Files directory. Flight sims do like fast reads from whatever drive upon which they are installed. With my old Windows XP computer, the C drive was a mechanical harddisk drive and I moved FSX to a SSD and the sim and scenery did load faster. With my current computer, I put FSX: Steam Edition on my C drive as it is an M2 drive. My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

As Stans says, installing it to the default Program Files (x86) directory can causes issues. If you reinstall FSX to your D drive I would suggest downloading the Avsim FSX configuration guide and follow ALL the recomendations in that document step by step and you should have a smoothly functioning FSX! You are describing having lots of CTDs - do you get an 'Out of Memory' warning message before this happens? If so your CTDs could be due to issues with VAS space which is quite common with FSX. Bill
