April 25, 20251 yr Hi all, For those of you who still fly in MSFS2020 and sometimes in Alaska, I would like to know how the ground textures appear on your side ? Yesterday I made a flight from Beaver Creek to Whitehorse, in the continuation of an exploration trip that started from Anchorage. The scenery from Anchorage was beautiful until I reached Beaver Creek, which was mostly surrounded by ugly generic ground textures. These things happen, I know, especially when the original ground textures have a cloud on it. But after I departed from Beaver Creek to go to Whitehorse, I was surprised: all of that area is 100% generic ground textures with no autogen at all on the way. The worse thing is that textures in the distance were not generic, they were like the flight-creation map texture, progressively replaced by generic ground texture when getting closer to them... Fortunately normal aerial ground textures and autogen came back around WhiteHorse (less than 10 miles away, though...). I understand that many areas have bad ground texturing (and yes, I know about the Map enhancement tool, but I wasn't using it this time), for example when taking off from Sitka to go to Juneau, you'll fly over generic ground textures for a while, but it's kind of localized. However, during that flight, it was almost as if my sim had a connection problem or something. What do you think ? I will probably try to fly in that area again with the map enhancement tool to see if that makes a difference. Edited April 25, 20251 yr by Daube
April 26, 20251 yr I often fly in this area and on msfs, yes the scenery is very generic. Worse than that, the fps drops a lot in this area. Never understood why. Haven't tryed a lot in msfs24 to check if it is better
April 30, 20251 yr Author I tried it in MSFS2024 and yes it was looking a bit better... I mean, at least the ground was covered in autogen trees, and the ground textures didn't look like FS9 repetitive generic patches. It's weird though... And the thing is, since I'm not getting any autogen at all in MSFS2020 in that area, that probably means that even if I would use the Map enhancement tool, I still wouldn't get any autogen in there, so it's kind of pointless...
April 30, 20251 yr Give the Map Enhancement tool a try and select MAPBOX as the map. You will have to have a pro version though. Pretty much the entire north of Canada and Alaska is covered. Edited April 30, 20251 yr by planechaser
April 30, 20251 yr Author Sorry but I'm not really willing to pay money to get just ground textures without autogen on them in that area 😉

Was flying over the Azores yesterday and some of the textures were abysmal. Polar routes are never fun with the poor textures up north but what is more annoying is how despite no autogen and base textures only they seem to populate one square at a time... For me, it's that one square of textures coming into focus at a time that's more off putting than the altogether poor textures. Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
