Looking for improved FDE for default FSX B737-800

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hello, I am trying to cobble together my own Boeing 737-800 using the default FSX 737-800 model to use in P3D.  I have a study level plane but I still want a decent one that is easier to fly when I don't feel like going through all the motions.  I'm starting with a freeware package that contains many liveries but the aircraft model is default in every other way (besides P3D compatibility updates).  I plan to add the defaultimate 737 VC, the free FMC and a quality sound package I bought.

To my surprise, nobody has ever made an FDE mod for the FSX B737 and I've searched all over looking for one on a freeware site with better flight dynamics but I came up empty.

Does anyone have improved flight dynamics that will work for the default FSX Boeing 737-800 that they would be willing to share with me?  Or does someone know where to find improved flight dynamics for it?  It doesn't have to be perfect, I just want something better and more accurate than default.

Thanks

I've got one on my website(link in my signature).

It's for P3D, but should work in FSX.

Wow, thank you so much Dave!  I never knew about your website before.  You've made some very interesting improvements to the B737 and I see some other things on your site that I'm interested in downloading too.  Thank you so much for your work, I really appreciate this.

Hey, @dave2013, I just wanted to ask something to be sure since your aircraft don't have a lot of repaints.  For the B737-800, repaints for the default FSX plane should work for it and for your Airbus collection, I should use Project Airbus repaints, right?

Edit: Never mind, I realized the B737-800 is Project Open Sky model and the A320s are Project Airbus

Thanks again for your wonderful models you put  together.  You have no idea how long I've spent looking for the best freeware Boeing 737-800 and the best freeware Airbus A320 family of aircraft and now I am sure I have found them thanks to your work.  Your planes have good features and they have by far, the best VC textures I've ever seen.

I only wish you would have done the same for the Boeing 747-400 too 🙂

Sorry to keep bugging you Dave, but there is a problem I'm having with the A320CFM.  I am unable to turn on the flight control computers.  All 7 switches are stuck in the off position and I can't figure out why.  I have engines running and all systems turned on so I don't know what I'm doing wrong or if this is a bug.

Those buttons have never worked for me in P3Dv4-6.  Maybe they used to work in FSX.

They don't actually do anything, so you don't need them to be on.

After I finish a few more airports, I plan to do the A321 and 737-900 first and then start working on the A330.

I may do the 747 down the road, but not for at least 6 months or so.

@dave2013 I had no idea that those buttons didn't do anything.  So I'm guessing Direct Mode was originally never implemented in the Project Airbus models then.

I did find an Airbus A320 Family package on Rikoooo that included the A318, A319, A320 and A321 which are modified Project Airbus planes, but whoever made the package, did model Direct Mode which was fun to fly the Airbus that way.

The problem with it is when in Normal Mode, the flight control computers on, there is a strange effect that causes the airplane to porpoise up and down in the air (I don't mean a porpoise landing) when I'm flying by hand, the whole plane would move, or rock up and down, even when I was not putting any pressure on the side stick.  The only fix was turning on the autopilot.

That makes me extremely happy that you are still working on more stuff.  I would try anything you make, so far I'm very much enjoying your add-ons and modifications.  Please keep up the great work.

If you do decide to do the 747, you will be my best friend for life lol 😁

Thanks a lot for the kind words.  I'm glad you're enjoying my mods.

Dave2013, How do you start the 737-900 engines?  They wont even start with Ctrl-E!

Battery on

Ground Power on

APU to start

Beacon on

Ignition Both or LEFT/RIGHT

Left/Right Engine GND START

Fully fueled, instruments on, the engine RPM spins up but doesnt catch and zero's after a few seconds.  I'm missing a switch arent I?

Ctrl-E doesn't work right for me, either.

You have to use the engine start switches at the bottom of the overhead panel.

I just loaded up the plane and did this and it worked fine.

Hope this helps.

Great stuff Dave, good to see people keeping P3D alive. Are those models v6 only or is there a chance they will work in e.g. v5.3?

PS I cant see any download links on your site when I click on Boeing or Airbus in that menu top-right? Is there a browser issue maybe, or do I have to register or log in somewhere? tried a couple of different ones and same result.

It is the menu's on the top right of the page.  Click on what you want to download from the drop down list and it will take you to the actual page with the download link.

I have run into a few minor compatibility problems in P3Dv5.4 using Dave's planes I've tried so far, some of the added panels, like the V-Speeds panel not working, shows up blank (no numbers) when I open it.  I have this on multiple aircraft, one of the Airbus A320CFM I tried and the Boeing 737-800.

At least, I believe they are compatibility issues but I could be wrong.  Maybe an incompatibility problem between P3Dv5 and P3Dv6?  Overall the aircraft are mostly working though.

I do have to say, I like his adjustments to the flight dynamics.
