May 8, 20251 yr Anybody used it? I've used it quite a bit lately to provide answers answers to questions on a range of topics. It's included with WhatsApp now. Is ChatGPT as good? Meta AI has astonished me, to be honest.

Has it accused you of killing your children yet? https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c0kgydkr516o Be sure to watch out for hallucinations. https://futurism.com/openai-admits-gpt45-hallucinates https://www.reuters.com/technology/artificial-intelligence/ai-hallucinations-court-papers-spell-trouble-lawyers-2025-02-18/ These LLMs can be helpful with some things, just be sure to understand how they work and watch for the hallucinations.
May 8, 20251 yr Also watch out if you are new to mushroom foraging. https://explorersweb.com/mushroom-foragers-warned-against-ai-generated-guides/ https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/mushroom-picking-ai-generated-1.7502667
May 8, 20251 yr First of all, I want to thank @kangoat for these links. If I were inclined to make satirical comments, I suspect I could get myself banned from Avsim with only one post. Because AI certainly isn't the only thing that "hallucinates". Just watch the news. Or read the comments. Here's a comment from the explorersweb article: Quote Jason2 years ago FYI - tasting and smelling are absolutely valid methods of mushroom identification. All mushrooms are safe to use the "Taste and Spit" test - just don't swallow. This test is often used on Russulas, Lactarius, Agaricus, and many other genus. The AI mushroom guides are concerning, but it appears the author isn't familiar with this topic either... Looks like someone is hallucinating. You get to decide who. I just know that I won't be smelling and tasting unidentified mushrooms either way, even if Jason is right. Don't believe everything you hear or read. In fact, don't believe anything you hear or read without some form of verification. Fine tune your bovine excrement detector as best you can and sample a variety of sources. "Trust but verify." We live in a fictional universe written by an unreliable narrator. This isn't all bad news; in fact, it's quite optimistic. The next time you hear something that might keep you awake at night, remember that the truth may well be considerably different. My typing fingers are positively itching to give examples but I like being able to post on Avsim. 🙂 Hook PS. Aw, crud. OK, I'll give one hopefully safe example: "AI hallucinates up to 80% of the time and no AI hallucinates less than 30%." Uh huh. Edited May 8, 20251 yr by LHookins Larry Hookins Oh! More wisdom, so wise it must have come from cats. So far, its been useful for me, but I've not used it for anything important where a wrong answer would be troublesome.
