It was never suggested it would improve 'loading' or terrain detail those are different issues. It addresses edge sharpening and there is no brain-tricking, it's that edges become sharper. Other techs are used to do this and this particular one may or may not be better at it than other approaches. And when one tags an approach as "over" sharpened this implies sharpened to the point of creating unwanted side effects or artifacts and those will be perceived differently by different brains. I thought I would give this a try. I opened the Nvidia Control Panel to see I already had Sharpening - no need for a registry edit. Maybe this is a later driver default setting? I tried the settings but found far too many artifacts at 4K resolution. I turned down the setting from .65. to .55 and a much nicer effect. I turned sharpening off in game. I thought this would be another flop suggestion, but I very much like the sharpening it gives. I'm finding it's a decent substitute for the Details filter and it may impact performance less. Details can have a subtle effect on panning quality but it's subtle. I'm in one flight now w/ this NCP form of sharpening and have Details off and it's decent. One positive attribute of Details filter is that its various sliders adjust effects during flight whereas w/ this method that's not the case you would have to relaunch the sim to manifest a change I'm pretty sure. Details can also create some odd artifacts in certain clouds in certain lighting but it's infrequent so I will look for this in this NCP method and see if that improves as well. At 4K I had to go down to .50 sharpness setting to eliminate obvious white halos around objects and scenery. A setting of .50 for me gives excellent sharpness to everything without artifacts. Best sharpening I have seen in 2024. A LOD of 400 brings my system to its knees because it's also rendering buildings and trees much further out. The mod only makes textures sharper, so the performance drop is a lot less.
