August 1, 2025Aug 1 I have been of the opinion such an upgrade would be a complete waste of money, but came into a bit of a windfall. Would there be any noticeable benefit?
August 1, 2025Aug 1 Watch video .. compare the feature set then decide. If you do decide to get one i suggest you sell your gpu to recoup some of the funds. If your monitor is less than 4k i wouldn't bother but that's just my opinion and i am not in the market for 90 class GPU's (I prefer 80 class stuff for 1440p resolution and i feel Nvidia dropped the ball there by just doing 16gb VRAM for the 5080 which is why i am just sitting here waiting to see how long before someone releases a 18-24gb current gen GPU that fills that market void. Thanks... will check it out. I have a 4K display and also a 9800X3D so there's not much else to upgrade at this point. And I agree... selling the 4090 can probably recoup a fair chunk of the cost of a 5090. But I'm sure its well into diminishing returns at this point where its like investing an extra $1000 to get a few extra FPS. I cringe thinking about it, but it is my main hobby. I'm probably better off taking the wife out to a few nice dinners 😄 Edited August 1, 2025Aug 1 by Virtual-Chris

I'm probably better off taking the wife out to a few nice dinners 😄 Newegg offered $1600 for my 4090 trade in and a few of the 5090 like the Zotac card are down to MSRP so the swap should have cost me a little over $800. I'm in 5K and knowing how VRAM hungry '24 is I just went for it... I say "should" have cost me because I ended up keeping the 4090 and putting it in my race sim rig that had a 3090 and now I'm looking at the 9800X3D, new MB and DDR5 to optimize the 5090... So the card ended up costing me full price AND I'm adding another $1000 for the CPU, MB and RAM LOL ... Somehow my $800 upgrade is now $3200 🤦♂️🤷♂️🤔 With that said, I'm picking up more FPS than I anticipated but bigger than that is all my ghosting is gone... Glass displays are now on High with the 5090 and all my ghosting is gone. Edited August 6, 2025Aug 6 by psolk Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
August 7, 2025Aug 7 Author I’ve decided to stick with my 4090. I get 100-110FPS at 4K with TAA and FG with all settings maxed and with AutoFPS can get TLOD up to 600-800 in flight. I really can’t see the benefit in getting an extra 10 FPS (as my display only does 120Hz).
