There's a thread for that

Stay on topic without much drifting around or the topic WILL be closed!

Any time you want to post something not related to the topic of a thread, make a new thread for it.

This should fall within both the letter and the spirit of the rules.

For what it's worth, I don't make the rules, I don't interpret the rules, and I certainly don't enforce the rules.

The best I can do is give advice on how to follow the rules.

Charlie is going to close threads that go off into the weeds.  Act accordingly to keep threads from being closed.

This has been a public service announcement.  Now, back to your regularly scheduled flame throwing.

Thank you!  The general rule is that if you want a conversation to go another way you would normally
say "I want to discuss something else".  Then a new topic is born.  Even sitting or standing around the
hangar chewing the fat with anyone, you usually don't throw something totally off topic at 'em without
some kind of acknowledgement that you are doing so......"Hey, I just thought of something not in this
particular subject".... then blah, blah, blah!

Keep in mind that this is NOT open for debate here!

I figure I'm as bad as anyone about going off topic.

Is there an easy way to do a quote from one thread and use it to make another thread, so we can link back to the original?  I seem to remember doing this at one time, but if so I don't remember how I did it.

You could probably do this, but you've got enough on your plate already.  I've been in forums where a moderator would break off another thread when appropriate.

Can we vary on that or is it strictly "I want to discuss something else"? 😀

What we are trying to avoid is a topic going off in a different direction/subject.  If we were to do what a few folks
want to do, then the Hangar Chat Forum would consist of 1 Topic Labeled "Talk about Anything" and would have
several thousand page of nothing but blathering!  Nobody would know what the heck was going on!
