August 31, 2025Aug 31 ...or did the updates applied to the Longitude during the SU16 release break the sim? I posted on this in the thread on the MSFS 2020 SU16 release, but I wanted to check in with the rest of the community to see if I'm the only one experiencing this. I had been running a series of flights in the Longitude when SU16 was released. For a couple of days all was well - performance was good and there were no issues. Then there were a couple of very small updates. I noticed that one of them mentioned the Longitude. On my next attempt at flight the sim crashed when I clicked "Fly". The sim crashed on the next 12 attempts. I figured I had an issue with my system, a mod, etc. so I tried all of the usual including clearing the Community folder, changing video drivers, reinstalled the sim, updated the BIOS and even reinstalled (ran a repair) of Windows. No matter what, I got a CTD on the "Fly" command. I decided that FS2020 was now wrecked and shut it down. After a couple of days, on a whim, I booted up the sim and loaded the Kodiak. The aircraft spawned properly and I had a great flight. I did another flight with the Kodiak - all went well. I reloaded the Longitude - CRASH. I loaded the Bonanza G36 - all went well. Loaded the Longitude - CRASH. Flew the Starship - it was good. Loaded the Longitude again - CRASH. Flew the CJ4 - beautiful. Loaded the Longitude - and, CRASH. In my system, at least, it seem that something happened in the SU16 update sequence that damaged the Longitude enough to crash the sim but all else works well. Am I the only one experiencing this? August 31, 2025Aug 31 Longitude (MSFS2020) is loading ok for me. Did you check the Windows Event Viewer? Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
August 31, 2025Aug 31 Author Yes - every time. These crashes are only occurring with the Longitude and the fault is always the same: Faulting module name: CoherentGTJS.dll I should also note the Exception code: 0xc0000005 This would normally indicate RAM issues, damaged system files etc., but all file tests come back negative and the RAM tests as pristine with no errors. August 31, 2025Aug 31 Author OK - big update here. After trying "everything" it occurred to me that the update may have damaged the aircraft files themselves, so I booted FS2020 up and deleted the aircraft. Then I went back in and reinstalled it whereby it redownloaded all of the files. Ironically, the first time I tried to reset the saved controller settings for the Longitude I found myself back on the desktop. I rebooted the PC before trying again and this time I was able to reset the controllers. I set up a flight with the Longitude, held my breath and clicked "Fly". This time I ended up safely at my departure airport with the aircraft safe at cold & dark. I'll know more after I try a flight tomorrow, but it appears that the update corrupted the aircraft files and kicked off the whole chain of events. Randall Rocke
September 1, 2025Sep 1 Author Well... Outside of finally getting me to the tarmac last night the sim is now crashing again as of this morning. Once again attempting to use the Longitude just puts me on the desktop after clicking "Fly". So, reinstalling it just got me one parking spot last night and we're back to a constant fail after that. After 6 CTDs I gave up and loaded up the CJ4 and had a decent flight. I'm going to go ahead and file a report, but as I appear to be the only one experiencing this issue I won't hold out much hope. Are all crashes showing the same Faulting module name: CoherentGTJS.dll? Edit: Just to verify if you are using the default MSFS2020 Longitude (no Mods)? Edit: Just to verify if you are using the default MSFS2020 Longitude (no Mods)? 99.9999% are showing the Coherent module. After the first crash this morning, FS2020 crashed on the restart indicating FlightSimulator.exe as the culprit. On the next startup it made it back to the FS2020 UI before it crashed again with the Longitude indicating CoherentGTJS.dll again after selecting "Fly". I do not use any mods with the Longitude - I also ran tests with an empty Community folder the previous day and it still crashed. Once I changed to the CJ4 everything ran smoothly. Randall Rocke
September 11, 2025Sep 11 Author It's hard to say what caused all of this - it's appearing more and more that the timing of my difficulties just coincided with my rotation to the Longitude. I suspect that there was an incompatibility from a recent Windows 10 update that may have caused a lot of my issues with FS2020, as all file checks, memory tests, etc. came back clean. At long-last I have made the upgrade to Windows 11. I was not able to do this before as I had massive hardware changes and a need to clone all of my programs over to that hardware and test them completely (including FS2020). I began my attempts to move to Win 11 last week and it kept failing and reverting. Finally, after a BIOS update the Win11 update worked and I am now running smoothly on the new OS. Whatever the issue was with FS2020, it appears to be gone after this update - there have been no more crashes. Randall Rocke
September 12, 2025Sep 12 I was having an issue with similar crash but in 2024... https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/ctd-while-in-menu/737633 Run the following commands (w/admin rights) and when all completed successfully and without error/s. In the following order: Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /checkhealth Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /scanhealth Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth sfc /scannow Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup RESTART computer as the last step. I believe the issue may be related to a server side issue. September 12, 2025Sep 12 Author Yes, I have run that sequence when other approaches to issues haven't worked - it has resolved problems and repaired files at times. However, it had no effect on my CTDs this time and no problem items were identified. In my case, it appears it was the OS and Win11 has the sim running well. Randall Rocke
