Majestic Dash 8 - RDC top calculator

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm trying to study the Dash 8 systems, but I can't find any online resources that explain the usage criteria for the RDC TOP.
I understand it's used in situations with ample margins to preserve the engines, that each press reduces torque by 2%, and it can go up to a maximum of 80%.
Are there no reference tables explaining how to know whether and how much to use it?

Thanks!

Daniele

You’ll need a lot of data (runway length, winds, weight, pressure, height, temp, contamination) to determine how to set … I’ve never used it myself, so I would experiment and take notes of what works and what doesn’t.  I believe the SOP for setting it will vary from company to company.  I had some training videos on the Q400 from real world pilots but I can’t remember the name of the folks that produced them (they did a few others also).

You might be able to get the suggested value from Aerodata, but I believe you need to be a hired company pilot (I think) to use that software?

I believe the 2% decrements are based on the “current value” so 90% to 88.2% (1st press) to 86.5% (2nd press).

The videos were Airline2Sim by Ben Weston.   Ben had a messy domestic time (I feel his pain), and went to work out in the middle east, where I think he met someone else, and last I knew he was in Saudi.   Then radio silence.

But @Airline2Sim has been dead to the world for a while and I can't access the videos now 😞

Ben, if you're around, hope you're doing OK buddy!

I had no idea regarding Ben … really enjoyed their content, very informative.
