P2A runway assignment

Featured Replies

Good morning everyone.
I'm having a problem with P2A. I'm still on V2 (the latest available release). I'm using P2A on a different PC than the one where P3D v4 is installed. I use AIG AI traffic (version of flight plans in BGL files).

I use ActiveSky weather and every 5 minutes I copy the .wx file from the PC where AS is installed to the PC where P2A is installed because it doesn't see the shared folder (it always says the weather isn't available).

I don't understand why P2A assigns me a different takeoff and landing runway than the one used by AI traffic. I usually use LIPE as my departure airport, and invariably, once I'm on the runway ready for takeoff, an AI aircraft is in front of me and performs a Go Around maneuver. The same thing happens when landing (at many airports), where I find planes taking off in the opposite direction to me. Is it some incorrect setting or a bug in version 2?
Thanks for your help and any advice you can give me.

Hi everyone,
I don't want to be pushy, but can anyone help with my post? It's quite frustrating and kills the immersive experience in the simulation (which is a priority for me). I'm willing to upgrade to V3 if that solves the problem. Maybe Dave can provide some definitive help?
Thanks again everyone,

Alessandro

Personally I use aiflow/aiground to configure runway use.

Hi srcooke, thanks for your information; it's an option I'll try.
The question remains, however: assuming that AIG's AI traffic sets takeoff and landing runways consistently with weather conditions (and it would appear so, looking at the runways in use and the ATIS information), and considering that P2A uses the same weather information and sees AI traffic, why does it assign different runways? I imagine Dave can certainly help me understand if my assumptions above are accurate.
Thanks and have a nice day.

The divergence in runway assignments usually happens in light wind conditions and P2A uses the "preferred" runway.  If the AI Engine has a different preferred runway, it will likely use that and it may well be different.

You can set the preferred runways at an airport in the Data Manager, Runways panel.  You can also set your tailwind limit to 0 on that tab in V2 and that will force P2A to favor runways with some headwind, if there is wind.  Config (V2) also has a setting on the P2A Setup tab for Aircraft Information where you can set crosswind and tailwind limits.

Finally, on the FltPlan tab you can check the "Match SIM Runway if Known" option.  If the SIM has been running long enough for aircraft to have been taking off and landing for a while when you start P2A, this option will try and determine the correct runway based on that activity.  It isn't always able to work but should help if timing is correct.

HI Dave, thanks.

I'll try the settings you recommended, as well as srcooke's suggestions. I'll post the results here.

Thanks again all,

Alessandro
