How to enter lat/long?

Featured Replies

Hello, yesterday I bought Orbx's Klamath & 36S Happy Camp add-on.

It has three small strips which don't show up in the airport list called CA104, CA105, and CA106 but it does give the lat/long coordinates.

Can someone tell me the precise steps to enter in lat/long so I can spawn a plane there?

Thanks,

Jack

Hi Jack:

How have you been…?

I’m on MSFS2024, but you can try inserting the decimal format LAT/LONG co-ordinates into the Search Box of MSFS World Map, and next add it as your Departure Point, and then Fly.

This should take your a/c to the specified LAT/LONG position.

See if it works for you.

Cheers…!

Thanks, I've had issues. Don't want to post it here.

I appreciate your help but I tried this and it doesn't work, would it be possible to post a screenshot or something? How to I put in the + & - and decimals?

Jack

Sure, Jack. Here is a screenshot, below, from my MSFS2024.

I often use Lat/Long for my flights.

Just enter the decimal Lat/Long co-ordinates into the (World Map) Search Box separated by a space (or a comma) e.g., for O'Hare Airport, the co-ordinates are to be entered as follows:

41.9773533[Space]-87.8963407

Hit Enter and you will see the screenshot below. Click on the new format Lat/Long that pops up and set it as your departure. Then Fly.

Any issue, please PM me.

This SO much appreciated! Thank you. I'll be able to try this in a little while and will be sure to let you know if it worked.

Well, I did as you suggested but the plane plane spawns at 7000 feet altitude and then falls and smashes into the ground 😞

You can tell it to spawn on the ground.

from another comment I found on a sim

Because it’s an option in the drop down box when you click somewhere on the globe. Options available are: Airborne / on ground cold & dark / on ground ready to taxi”

Thanks, I'll try again.

Jack:

Like Jonathan says, there is an option how to spawn at that location.

See the couple of images below for O'Hare Airport Lat/Long that I mentioned earlier. This is what I see in MSFS2024.

Here's what I get, the lat/long is all wrong. I press enter and it does nothing.

Jack:

These days to post an image here, we do not need those prefix and suffix [img] labels...so your posted image is not showing up correctly for us.

Here is your screenshot:

MBpOWPL.jpg

Could you click on the last entry (Degrees/Minutes etc.) or the entry above it that says "Custom", and select how to spawn ...?

I know you're in MSSF2020, so, mine looks a bit different.

Jack:

I tried your Lat/Long co-ordinates

41.6024205 -123.5034001

And now, I see you're missing one step.

Look under "FROM" in your screenshot above, it still shows "SELECT DEPARTURE and RUNWAY". So, you've not yet set that custom waypoint as your departure. Once you do that, the FROM should look like as below image. You can then choose how to spawn.

Hope this does it for you...BTW, when I spawned at your Lat/Long, my a/c started rolling into a nearby stream...🙂..., so, be prepared to apply brake...

When I click on Custom nothing happens. It's like it's not clickable.

I don't have a menu with those selections. This must be different between 2020 and 2024. I don't use 2024.
