Weather themes effecting engine startup

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a couple of helicopters that have fairly accurate engine startup procedures.

When I use weather themes that predict  any bad weather the N2 gauge takes ages to increase to the point I have to clear weather themes in fsx and select fine weather then the N2 gauge behaves like lt should

Regards

Rhys

Hi Rhys,

I have a few addon helicopters with fairly detailed systems and this is not an issue I have come across, although I have to admit that I don't tend do a lot of helicopter flying particularly in bad weather.

Do you use the default FSX weather or are you using one of the weather addons?

Hi Bill

It occurs with fsx weather themes. I have lordy si traffic which has a world weather function and experience the same issue

Cheers

Rhys

Very odd! FSX, despite being 20+ years on the go, never fails to surprise!

As some helicopters use variants of turbine engines such as the PT-6 that are also used by many fixed wing aircraft, you would have though that these types might be prone to the same startup issues. However I fly a few turboprop twins in FSX with fairly accurate systems, such as the Flight1 King Air and Real Air Turbine Duke, and I certainly have not encountered any weather related start up issues.

Hopefully someone else with more knowledge of these things than me might be able to come up with an answer for you!

Thanks Bill

Its only happing with the Milviz 530F. I have their  bell UH-1 and the Dodsim 206 and they all work good as gold. Something in the MD530f is just not correct but there is no way to really tell what it is

Hi Rhys,

I can't test the MV 530 to try to replicate your problem as I don't have it but I have the other two and, as you say, they are fine.

As you know Milviz is now Blackbird and no longer supports FSX but, if they still have an active forum for the 530 that you could access, it might be worth posting about this on there as they used to be very helpful.

I have a very strange issues with the FSX Just Flight Airbus A320 when I use REX Skyforce weather engine.  When I am in cruise, suddenly, and rapidly, the aircraft will begin accelerating very, even though I have the autopilot set to Mach 0.78.  The plane will then keep accelerating until it over speeds which over stresses the airplane causes it to crash.   If I catch it quick enough, I can save the airplane, but then it will just happen again.  I've never had this or any problem caused by a weather engine before except for this one particular aircraft.

I use Active SKy as my weather engine and I have to say I have never experienced any particular engine issues (that I know of!!) which seem to be related to the use of that weather engine. I no longer use the Just Flight A320 but have switched to the Aerosoft version as it much more accurately replicates the Airbus logic in terms of systems and MCDU function. However one thing I have noticed is that I have to tone down the turbulence effects in the weather engine as the autopilot can sometimes become destabilised by turbulence in the Aerosoft A320 resulting in the aircraft entering alpha floor mode which is a bit irritating!
