The ageless C-130...

Featured Replies

This afternoon a lady who used to be one of my troops in the weather flight and her husband, a former Air Force C-130 pilot and retired American Airlines pilot, took me to lunch for my birthday.  They retired up in Ruidoso about 70 miles west and 3,000 feet higher than we are.

Our conversation about our Air Force careers and the like got me to wondering about that venerable old C-130 so I looked up what might replace it.  Nothing yet although I found this:

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Ahh, Ruidoso.  We lived in Alamagordo for a few months and then Socorro for many years.  Whenever we wanted to visit a nice mountain town we'd head to Ruidoso.

I've read other articles that talk about the need to replace or update various military hardware for a "potential conflict with China or Russia".  What gets me is that we should have been doing this 10 years ago, because now it's likely too late.  We are totally unprepared for a large conflict with either of those countries, and conflict is likely to happen within a few years.  Some scenarios have us running out of missiles and ammo within a few weeks.

The best strategy would be to avoid conflict at all costs, unless you're invaded of course.  It looks like our fearless leaders have other ideas, however.  God help us.

And to be clear, it's most of them, regardless of what letter is next to their name.

This will end my commentary as I don't want this to get locked.

It can all be boiled down to one word: greed.

Happy Birthday Noel.  I just got home after a week in the hospital.  So good to be home!

The C-130 is maybe my favorite aircraft of all time.  So versatile and what a workhorse.
