April 27Apr 27 I have learnt that there are som quality issue with this headset which is due to the glas lenses being difficult to get exactly right. So you might ask how big is the risk to get a headset with minor flaws like dead pixels or distorsion in the display ? Google AI estimate that risk to be about 5-8 % and Grok AI says it is more like 15-35 % and that Google AI is wrong It is reasoned that customer with minor flaws do not clain warranty because of the trouble So my question for Crystal Light customer is. Did you get a headset with minor flaws such as slight distorsion in the display or faulty pixels ?
April 27Apr 27 I got a Cristal Light that works flawlessly, I struggled some time setting up it, (Gemini AI helped a lot) but now it works so well as I never expected after owning a Quest 3 - Is cristal clear, and can read all cockpit instruments, even that placards with the smaller text I5 13000 - 5070TI - 64 ram Pimax Play: Image quality 90% - refresh rate 90 Hz - no gpu upscaling - sharpening 50% - no quadviews - smart smoothing on - MSFS24: Dlss Quality, almost all settings at high - V 3.106 preset K

Did you get a headset with minor flaws such as slight distorsion in the display or faulty pixels ? I think AI is probably a bit out of date. When the Crystal Light was first launched in the back end of 2024, it was such a leap in VR performance of an 'affordable' product, Pimax were swamped with orders. Apart from pure availability, they also had to ramp up the production of the components - including the pretty special lenses. And - I may be mis remembering this - they added additional lens making suppliers...and there were problems. A relatively high proportion of units sent out had distortion in the displays due to poor quality of the lenses. Pimax set up a HUGE (in commercial terms) lens replacement service through their Crystal Light Discord sites and, as such, you could actually see the customers' requests and bug reports...and there were dozens and dozens. BUT - I've just looked at the support section of the Crystal Light Discord site and, going back two or three months cannot see any customer raising this particular problem. So yes - two years ago, it was indeed a big problem. But I'm pretty sure it's old news. (by the way, my own Crystal Light - bought fairly early - did indeed have that issue. New lenses were sent to me very quickly with no question or argument and they are flawless and have served me well ever since.) Ryzen 7 9800x3D @5.2GHz; ASUS X670-P Motherboard; nVidia 4080 (factory o/c); 32G 5600MHz DDR5 SDRAM; Pimax Crystal Light VR Headset; Quest 3 VR Headset
April 29Apr 29 I bought very early. There were no issues, headset worked correctly, good lenses. The new Pimax Play drivers have improved tracking and stability quite a lot. It was good in the beginning and great now. I am in the Beta SU5 My specs are 4070 12 GB gpu and 5800X3D cpu. I use 90hz Upscale in Pimax Play and set full resolution (100%) there. MSFS: anti alias DLSS / Quality foveated rendering ON / 50 <==EXTREMELY IMPORTANT IN THE BETA. BIG FPS/STABILITY BOOST reprojection OFF (but not impotant) global rendering HighEnd but both object and Terrain levles set to 140. Best computer hardware i ever bought was the PCL 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.
April 29Apr 29 By the way, I never bought the controllers for PCL. They used to give you $100 if you didn't want the controllers. I did not want them. I had a HP Reverb G2 before this, it came with controllers, but I never used them for MSFS because I could not find any use for them. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. From what I understand it those glas linses are more sensitive to variations that can introduce errors. So it is unavoidable to get a higher risk for misadjustment of the lenses or minor variation in their form. But I do think the higher estimates are clearly exagerated. Still even 5% feels unconfortable for me. In addition to the risk of getting a flawed headset there is also the aspect of the headset being more fragile because of the heavy glas linses. For example once my HP Reverb G2 fell to the floor but still worked. With a PCL I suspect this would be more serious.
April 29Apr 29 This video was posted one hour ago.. My experience is the same has his. I don't want to buy any other VR headset. 5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. I'm with @Fielder - I have no plans or desire to buy a different one and I use it daily. But if you are concerned that maybe it is not for you, then don't buy one. But if you are concerned that maybe it is not for you, then don't buy one. It's actually Grok AI that raised the concerns. It claims that there is a 15-30% risk of getting a unit with noticable problem and then 25-45% for the replacement unit to be flawed. The question is should I be concerned ? Another problem is that the alternative headsets (Quest 3 and Steam Frame) also concerns me in some ways

And the problem is that, if you search with anything other than Grok AI about the accuracy of Grok AI, the statistics also aren't great (a quick search I made reported Grok AI as 94% inaccurate...but that itself may be inaccurate ). Back to your original question: 1. Yes - when the Crystal Light was launched in late 2024, I had some perceivable blurriness in some areas of the lenses. 2. Yes - Pimax sent free replacement lenses very quickly and those lenses gave me outstanding visuals compared with the Reverb2 I used to have and the Meta Quest 3 that I still have and no longer use 3. Am I pleased with the Pimax Crystal Light? Yes - very. I do not plan to change headset in the forseeable future 4. Is it rugged? I've used it pretty much every day for the last year and a half and it hasn't given me a single problem. It usually sits on the floor and I've kicked it accidentally numerous times and it hasn't missed a beat. 5. Is there a Caveat? Always - of course, your results may vary. Hope this answers your question Ryzen 7 9800x3D @5.2GHz; ASUS X670-P Motherboard; nVidia 4080 (factory o/c); 32G 5600MHz DDR5 SDRAM; Pimax Crystal Light VR Headset; Quest 3 VR Headset

Yes no doubt Grok AI can be wrong. First I pointed out that it make no sense that the risk should be higher for a replacement unit. Then I wrote that I found its risk estimate unlikely high. Then first it admitted that my first point was correct. Then it changed its risk estimate to 10-20% but repeat that Google AI numbers 5-8 % is too low
