Of course in the original franchise it was 1997. Oh well. :)

About 30 years too early. With all the data centers being built as we speak, providing ever-increasing computing power, it is entirely possible that within a few years AI will advance to the point where it does become self-aware. Heck, maybe it already is.

Hopefully those in charge of our armed forces have seen the Terminator films and won't make the same mistakes.

The Three Laws

• First Law: A robot cannot harm a human or allow one to come to harm through inaction.

• Second Law: A robot must obey human orders, unless they conflict with the First Law.

• Third Law: A robot must protect itself, unless doing so violates the higher laws.

Good ole Isaac Asimov. We definitely need some hard-programmed laws like that in our AI robots.

I just wonder if it's possible with AI. What I mean is, if we create artificial intelligence and the ability of that intelligence to learn on its own and sort of be free thinking like humans, can it also have hard-coded rules that it cannot violate?
