Custom gauge problem

Must say I am no expert at this, so would appreciate people avoiding telling me that I am being stupid. As if anyone would be so unkind!! :-)I've always found that having to go back to panel view from spot view when I need to make aquick alteration to the Autopilot a bit of a pain - and FS9 doesn't like swapping backwards and forwards in this way either. So I thought I would add a small autopilot panel which would appear at the top of the screen in spot view when I press F9.In fact, I use a Nostromo N52 keypad, so have engineered all my panel.cfg files (yes, after backing up the previous versions) so that when I press the same key on the pad, I get the little autopilot panel. I set it up and it works a treat: I find it useful.However, what I don't understand is why, when I go through panel views by pressing 'w', this autopilot panel appears unbidden when I arrive back at the full cockpit (not VC) view again. I'd be very grateful if anyone could tell me what the connection is between the various windows listed in the panel.cfg file and the 'w' ('panel on/off' option in assignemnts), and how I can avoid the little autopilot window being present every time I get back to the full panel view after pressing the 'w' key three times.Hope this is clear. You have assigned your window an ident of 0. This value is the same as that assigned to the main panel. Change the value on the "ident=" line to a unique value - try something between 10000 and 20000.Doug

Hi Martin,I won't call you "stupid" :-)In fact, you just discovered a new feature (at least: for me), where a window can be hidden behind the non-PureBlack spots of the main panel bitmap !!!I assume with "unbidden" you mean "unhidden" ?? This is caused by the ident=0 line in the window definition of your AP window.Use ident=10000 (or any value undefined by FS, or by another gauge) instead, and the problem is gone !!.And if I might make another suggestion: use my Groundhandling V4.0 package (rcbgh-40.zip). I hadn't understood what the indent line did - it just seemed to 'indent' the window from the screen margins. As soon as I get back to FS9 later today, I'll try what you say. I got the same advice from another friend last night, so looks as if this is the solution. Rob, (I did mean unbidden, but unhidden is also true!): would try your pushback panel but it would mean me changing all my cfg files again! Not sure I have the heart - this week I have also had to revise them all putting the 'autosmoke' feature in (from AVSIM library): lots of trial and error each time gauging where to put the gauge (so to speak). It'd be good to have a facility to put a grid onto the panel whilst working on it so as to be able to see precise co-ordinates, but haven't seen such a thing!Thanks very much for the replies. Rob,Dowloaded your update anyway - whilst I am changing the cfg files with the indent, I can add this too! Always found the groundhandling gauge very useful - especially the autotaxi speed on landing. Found one or two other goodies by using your name in the serach box too!M. :-)

Changing the indent to 10000 or 20000 stops the autopilot gauge appearing at all - the Palmspotter gauge appears instead. Don't see why, as I haven't changed the window order in the cfg file.However, tried indent=1000 - and problem solved (at least in the B777 I tried).. Thanks again.Martin

If you haven't made errors, and you claim that the wrong window is opening: This is what must be happening: a gauge detects that a window with ident=10000 is opened, and then automatically opens its own window with ident=65. So that window is on top of the AP with ident=10000.Note also that window order is very complicated in FS2004.It's a combination or order-of-definition, order-of-opening, and value of ident number. (depending if it is a FS defined ident or not)But after two years FS2004 I still haven't figured out exactly how ...:-)Cheers, ROb

Thanks again.Martin, the keyword is "ident", not "indent"...ident as in, identity... ;)As for your "grid" desire, I cannot recommend FS Panel Studio any higher for a very simple, visually oriented approach to panel development...It isn't 'free,' but it is by FAR the best $30 I've ever spent! ;)
