I read the Fly! forum several times a day, and at times I've posted a lot too. Lately, I've been lurking more than actively involved. After I had my second child, I watched my free time drop to nill. I think that makes me realize that many of us see fluctuations in the amount of time we have for Fly! projects. I'm sure there are a lot of folks like me, who have family and work demands, but who continue to hang around the community. Hopefully as some new projects are released for Fly!2 in the coming months, we'll see a spike in community involvement again.

Am I part of the youth movement? Just turned 51 :-) Also a frustrated former pilot. FLY also gives me the closest feeling of the "old days" in that C150, C172, and has allowed me to expand out to getting a brief feeling of bigger aircraft. I also would someday like to put on a hood again in a real plane. I think I would do much better after all the hours of IFR i've logged on sims.

The problem with the TBM700 operating in Win2k/XP is with the EFIS controls. You cannot switch the Nav source, always will be from the Nav 1 radio. Pressing either of the Nav source buttons (the second pointer works fine) will exit you to the desktop very fast. I tried to figure if anything in the pnl file would address this since the Pilatus uses a similar EFIS display and controls without the exit to desktop problem. This exercise while informative and time consuming did not fix the problem. I believe the problem is in the dll file from ROTW for the EFIS and I know nothing about this type of file. We'll just have to wait for a fix.Zane

Tony Even though I'm the last Fly! user I'll continue to use it no matter if what we have is all we have. I'm planning to go deeper and deeper in Fly! environment and programming understanding and to start developing tools for Fly! I'm in a very complicated project and don't have time this days.I agree with you. When I fly Fly! I fly. I would like to go back to real fly again (after 20 years almost) and not even then I will stop Fly!. I feel comfortable to see that I'm not alone as old fashioned and 'fanatic' for Fly!.If you will, take a look at http://jjlobo.sites.uol.com.br/index.htm. I'm updating my Fly! dreams there somehow with more details then I do sometimes here.(no updates for a while but soon...).Regards

JJ, this thread is starting to feel good for old men like me. Heck, it felt just like the real thing when sitting in some small airport lounge, reminiscing the good old flying days, real or not. I hope Rich H.can read our threads and smile, too.tony

>JJ, this thread is starting to feel good for old men like me.We're not "old" ...............yet! :)A few years ago, two pilots in our EAA chapter, took their SX300 up to the North Pole while in their 70's. Remote airstrips & had to have fuel brought in by barrels. So I figure we got at least 20 good years left!! :) L.Adamson

Well,I always grew up with 'kids' older than me...I'm 47. I'm also a real pilot (who doesn't fly much). But, I flew on many commercial flights on company business. So, I use Fly! II to fly the small jets. It seems very real to me as well.I really like the ILS approach challenges. It's great to pop out of the clouds and see the runway lined up!As for a cold beer, we could always virtually fly to an airport and drop in for a beer!Jeff

I must say I'm surprised at how many of us are in this age group - I am 54. I figured many of you were younger. When I looked at the demographic analysis of Avsim's simmers, this age group was certainly represented, but not in the numbers of the younger generations. This kind of creates a warm spot in my heart. :-)

I saw a picture of Larry that he attached to one of his posts once and I figured him for early 40's. Larry, either your aging well or that was a real old picture!:-)As far as the main topic concerning Fly II's future, for me it will be my sim of choice until something better........Unfortunately, life in the real world lately is keeping me from being very active with the sim or the forum although I do check in frequently to see the latest news. Particularly the beta forum. You never know when Brendon might make a surprise post!Since Michael mentioned Alejandro, I haven't seen a post from him in quite some time. Has anyone had any contact with him?

I guess I'm the youngest here. Don't ask how old I'am which means I have more than 35 years to fly FLY2 or FLY III . As of now this is the exclusive sim in my hard drive until a better one will be available. Been busy with other stuff lately and hopefully will start repainting and doing some 3d models again this summer. (Randall, sir, can I send you blank CD's to burn for all those sceneries you terrascened because I only have a dial-up connection)chris salviejo (philippines)currently here in L.A. indefinitely

Chris,It's certainly possible, but that would be a lot of CDs. The main reason I uploaded all of these tiles as project packs was to make it possible for everyone (including those on dial-ups) to download and render the sceneries themselves. On average, the project pack zip files run 50-80MB in size - some that include large water areas are quite a bit less. Using Download Accelerator, you should be able to download any of these packs. Yes, they will take a little time, but if you do moderate-sized downloads while eating meals, or schedule larger downloads for when you're sleeping, I think you'll be surprised at how easy it is.Now, I'm not against copying CDs, but I really don't have much time for it nor can I make it a common practice. For instance: complete, rendered scenery of the completed Ohio project and the current progress of the Carolinas project plus standalone project tiles would fill 20 CDs! However, if you are having problems downloading the project packs and really need the help, send me 3 CDs - all the current projects packs (which you would you would then need to render) would fit on that.

"old" easily may have a negative connotation. For me, it's a reminder that so many things these days appear strange or too complex and , suddendly, it hits me: "am I getting old". I have, for example, reduced my 1. newspaper reading since I concluded that the news is becoming terribly "dummed down".2. stopped watching tv, except for very rare situations3. still have not bought a cell phone4. reduced my mall trips from once a week to 1 every 3 months5. become terribly more skeptical about what I hear or readIs this a sign of age? I can think of many more things. I am trying to make a point.by the way, I am an executive vp for a public company and I am the "technology" guy. So money or work is not the reason. It may be that age and the speed with which one has to adapt these days do become a little out of sinc. It is in these moments that I say," gee I am an old man". In most cases, I am glad to not have to be , let's say, 17 again. tony
