>With AdvDisp, one just moves/scales the window and docks and >they're done. Still, you have to do this for every aircraft, I believe? I haven't spent much time with AdvDisp, so you may well be right that it's easier to handle than a gauge, and I agree 100% that it's unbearable to have to fiddle around with this stuff each time you load a panel for the first time. My suggestion for a gauge was only meant as inspiration for a clickable solution.>As for keys, V2.2 and V3 allow you define any key or >combination for all commands. In 2.2, it's in the >init_voices.txt file. In V3 it's part of the main >interface. I understand that, but my point was that there are no free buttons on my keyboard that will be suitable for this. I already use the unshifted number keys for the panels, and I think that often used keys have to be unshifted. Ctrl+Shift+ requires two hands, which I find annoying, to say the least, in particular if I'm applying pressure to the yoke at the same moment. Don't get me wrong, I'll live with it if I have to, but would prefer to use the mouse.>V3 will be made more simple with a numeric selection: >'1'-'5', with paging '8'-'9', and return to page 1: '0'. So >B3 will be much more simple to use.Conceptually simple, I agree, but a little tiresome, just like the default ATC. My point is that if my eyes are already on the menu choice I want, I'd find it "damaging" to the immersion to have to look away to locate the corresponding key on the keyboard. (English is not my first language, but I hope you understand what I mean.)I appreciate that using AdvDisp is an appealing solution from a technical point of view. I just think that RC would be an even better product with an interface designed directly for it.Anyway, assuming that AdvDisp will indeed be the choice, here's another suggestion:Maybe it would be possible to highlight one line at a time and allow navigation within the menus with even fewer keys? I can easily find e.g. the arrow keys in the dark, and those with enough POV hats could assign one to RC, then.I hope the RC team read all this as constructive feedback and inspiration, not criticism.

>I've been using fsassist while beta testing rc3, and there >doesn't seem to be any conflict. The rc menu is displayed in >the advdspl window, and the fsassist menu is displayed in >the fs message window. Hmm, strange, because I get RC2.2 alternating with FSAssist, whether I use AdvDisp or not. I wonder why FSAssist is not captured by ADvDisp in your case?

Scoot,>If the product is as simple as they make it sound, then that >obviously opens the door to all kinds of things. You can download the demo version and manual from their site:http://www.bluesky-net.de/I know doodly squat about programming...you'd be a much better judge of the program's capabilities that me.>Besides, AdvDisp does that now. I suppose one could make an >RC Control Panel style gauge with clickable commands. The same thought occured to me after I posted my last message. The question, though, is whether or not the user will still be able to change key assignments for the various functions.Sidney Schwartz [KPDX]

i downloaded it too. won't install. when i try to install the borland compiler, says i need to free up 50mb ( :-lol ), i hav 25gb freebut i don't see how a gauge is going to help any. i understand the mouse vs. keyboard issue ALL to well.butthe gauge is going to take up space, which some people are already saying "no more". both the gauge and advdisp.dll is going to have to occupy panel space. and let's say that we make a gauge, with push buttons to perform the menu functions. those functions are going to eat up key stroke combinations, which some people are saying "no more".i'll be glad to look at any prototype anyone has, but i will continue work on the current gui. maybe john hnidec will do a v3 control panel. that might be what the mousers want. i'll provide the basic keyboarder functionality, that his control panel uses

Allow me to suggest an alternative solution to entering commands.Game Commander 2. http://www.gamecommander.com/Cost. $30 USDThis program is a voice recognition system that takes your voice command and turns it into a keystroke or multiple keystrokes. Additionally, it is smart enough that you do NOT need to train it to your voice - it will work with any voice that uses it. It truly is amazing.Using this program and a good noise-canceling headset (i.e. Plantronics), I have set-up my system so that I hardly ever have to interact with the keyboard. So, when I say

Hi Kathy,>Game Commander 2.Yes, good suggestion. It's not something I have yet, but it's on my list, right after "learn to set up and use the FDC that I already bought." FDC also allows you to increase the number of keys commands you can assign to your joystick buttons, which will also help some. Even so, there's too many programs competing for a finite number of key commands. Besides RC and FDC, I also have Lago's FSAssist and FSScenery Enhancer. I was considering getting their new FSMaintenance, but then I'm thinking "how many programs can I stuff into FS before it blows up or I run out of available keystrokes...?" Sidney Schwartz [KPDX]

Hi JD,I've been monitoring this long thread with interest. At the start of the keyboard/mouse discussion you raised the possibility of RC sharing the display of John Hnidec's Flightmax.I'm still a fan of the Control Panel, but I now have Flightmax, whose display can be shown/hidden by the press of a button. If RC V3 is going to have a lot more choices, I now see how Flightmax's large display, line buttons and menu, could be a real help.Is there still a possibility of a collaboration with Flightmax?Regards, Jim H.

i'll contact john, see if he can put some generic/programmable buttons on his display.

Hi Kathy, Thanks for the update on voice commands and the link to their site. Sounds like the realism factor will be much better with this setup. I see your son is in a glider.....lucky boy! :-) I have 3 half hour flight tickets bought for my two sons and I to take a Cessna exploration flight. We each get to fly the Cessna for 1/2 hour!! Looking forward to it.Best, Rob

http://avsim.com/flightdeck/images/Radar_small.gifBeta tester for http://www.jdtllc.com' target="_blank">Radar Contact] the premier ATC adventure add-on for FS

If RC3 is not adventure based will I be able to call up ATC at any time, even if I am not flying an IFR flight plan and request flight following or other ATC services. Also will the instant replay function of FS2002 work as it does not work while playing an RC2.2 adventure. I love to watch the replays of my messy landings. Its one of the things I really miss while flying using RC2.2.Any clue on a release date. I have only just purchased V2.2 and cant wait for V3.Martyn Carr

Martyn,VFR - yes. As far as ability to just run RC and call up ATC at any time, probably not. We've not started the VFR phase yet.Since FS has not a clue that V3 even exists, you will have all functions in FS available. While testing v3, I also can pause, fix aircraft issues, reload the aircraft (or change completely), and continue. V3 also doesn't care what you do in FS (except reset). No date. Still a long way to go.

"No date. Still a long way to go."Lets hope that FS2004 doesn't come before that....

I'm a bit confused about 5. I've heard before about the waypoint having to be within 30 NM, but i have exceeded this more than once - withoout problems. Do i misunderstand something? :-)

You aren't violating anything by having a waypoint further than 30 miles from the departure airport. All the 30-mile limit is for is to tell RC you have a DP. RC won't route you after take-off, as it expects you know how to fly the DP you're using.
