December 3, 200223 yr Geof,I've taken G-EOFA up for a few spins with RC. No problems to report :)Hang in there bud. All will come good :) - Dean P3Dv4 & XP11 space

December 3, 200223 yr Author Thanks-that did help although the sound quality is definately diminished. I still find the pauses between words too much but this definately made it from unrealistic and computer like to just extremely slow, carefuland somewhat painful. -:) I may look into the voice files themselves-it sounds to me like there must be too much silent time attached to the ends of the wav files themselves-at least that is the way it plays here. http://members.telocity.com/~geof43/Geofdog2.gif Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
December 3, 200223 yr Hi Geof!Only real way to help would be to get a real PCI sound card and not use that terrible sofware solution that is the AC97, your CPU is doing all the work to create the sound for a low quality end result. The AC97 is a sofware CODEC and not a sound chipset, good enough for Windows ding and not much else, it also hoses a system's resources pretty badly. If possible for you disable the AC97 and plug in a PCI sound card, any would be better than using the onboard CODEC...:-wave ---All the BestKaty Pluta
December 3, 200223 yr That sounds like a good solution since I can personally guarantee that there is no silence in the wavs. They've all been heavily (and personally) trimmed. On my puny system I get smooth sentences for the most part.
December 3, 200223 yr Author Hmmmm... I got rid of my soundblaster live card because I got better performance using the on board card.I still am not sure if we are speaking of the same... contrast the way atc speaks in the canned ms atc, or the recorded wav chatter files-to the controllers/pilots that speak in a very slow, delibrate fashion--I just find it a too slow and not as realistic. The pause is slight-but it is there and between each wav file. If I had the problem with the stock fs atc I'd be more likely to beleive it is a hardware error, but that isn't the case. As far as I know-fs atc puts wav files together in a similar fashion.http://members.telocity.com/~geof43/Geofdog2.gif Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
December 3, 200223 yr Author I noticed one of the British voiced controllers seem to speak quite naturally-the co pilot female seems to be the one where this pause manifests the most. Maybe it is voices and can be rectified by using a different set?http://members.telocity.com/~geof43/Geofdog2.gif Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
December 3, 200223 yr Gaof,Okay. You had said one second or more before. The slight pause is due to layering wavs to form the sentence, and that, unfortunately, is going to be there. Even though it is more slow than what is really said (like reading this sentence), it's still not bad on my system (which is far worse than you have). The "realism" of speech is also dependant on the person who recorded. Some sets are very nice and blend well, some aren't. The CP is a good example. I use Juliana because she recorded with common tone and inflection where Ruthanne didn't. So Ruthanne sounds choppy and Juliana doesn't.However, the choppiness is mostly due to layering wavs. If you use RC enough you learn to live with it. Besides, it makes the real thing that much better. ;-)
