December 3, 200223 yr Ok-I haven't used Rc in several years-just got it going. I tried making a short flight from kfnt tokdet-ifr. Things went great except for about a 1 sec pause--between--each---word----number---. I also seem to be getting fs's default atc in the background-took care of that by de tuning the radios manually. Set my copilot up to do the comm work-all went fine except for the pause between every sound which took a while to even just read back the clearance. Got all the way to taxi to my runway and hold short...then nothing happened... I did get the funny text box shown in the shot-hitting "0" caused it to say standby-then it re appeared.I tried doing a longer flight-from kfnt to ord. This time I taxied to hold short of the active-then was told to taxi in position and hold. As soon as I did that my copilot radiod "aborting takeoff" and I was told to contact ground.I realize I am probably doing something wrong-but would sure appreciate some help. First--is there a setting to speed up the pause between recorded "words"?-second-what is wrong with the text box and why does pushing a key stroke such as "0" produce only "standby" and then nothing else. 3rd -why can't I seem to get going? It looks like a great program and I am trying to read the pdf file and fly at the same time but seem to be having trouble getting past square one!Thanks....http://members.telocity.com/~geof43/Geofdog2.gif Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

This time I >taxied to hold short of the active-then was told to taxi in >position and hold. As soon as I did that my copilot radiod >"aborting takeoff" and I was told to contact ground. somehow, somewhere, you hit the key to abort takeoff. you didn't say whether the co-pilot had the comms or not. either case. abort takeoff is a key initiated action. maybe one of your joystick buttons is programmed to send that key.>>I realize I am probably doing something wrong-but would sure >appreciate some help. December 3, 200223 yr Author I have a built in motherboard sound card- a avance ac'97 audio with lagacy audio drivers. I would have no idea what to change..what should I look for?I actually was holding my parking brakes..."the box that appeared, from your picture is from ms atc. advdisp.dll doesn't have a transparent mode. once you start talking to ms atc"I am not sure what this means-the box does not seem to show what your manual (yes I have read it) shows-and -----"0 means to go to page 1 of the menus. "standby" may be displayed while that is happening." ----is what is the problem-when I hit 0 I do not go to "page 1"-I get "standy" and then it flicks back to the screen you see with the little square boxes which also do not appear in the manual. As for ms atc-I get the ms atis playing at the same time yours does upon starting the program. The picture below shows the text box that I get upon startup-it does not seem to have the options your manual shows and has lots of little squares on it?I actually have been following the steps in the .pdf manual step by step-which is why I asked?! :-eek>http://members.telocity.com/~geof43/Geofdog2.gif Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
December 3, 200223 yr Commercial Member i didn't see the advdisp.dll window displayed in your screen capture. click on modules, is advdisp.dll checked? when you check it, a window will appear. place that window somewhere on your panel. then right mouse click it, and dock it. change the font, color, background color, and font size to suit yourself. size the window so it fits nicely on your panel.start rc, the advdisp.dll window will be filled with menu items. lets see if we can get you going. December 3, 200223 yr Author That may have been the problem-thanks-I'll give it a try now.http://members.telocity.com/~geof43/Geofdog2.gif Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
December 3, 200223 yr Are you using advdisplay at all? It looks like you have a fsatc box open. RC will display in that box if advdisp isn't running, but it looks like a mess. I dont think it will work properly. I also noticed the time between words is a little slower than I was used to in 2.2 but it didn't take long to get used to. I think thats how the wav's were made, not a hardware problem.
December 3, 200223 yr Hi Geof,As others have pointed out, you MUST make sure that your advdisplay window is open. It's been my experience that the advdisplay window is inconsistent about appearing when I start RC. Sometimes it will appear where it should, but sometimes I have to go to the modules menu and shut it off and then back on again. It's a minor nuisance, but once I do that I have no further problems. Also, make sure you set com2 as your active radio if you are listening to fs atc. RC will use com1 and does not care if it is active or not. I would recommend that you disable the fs atc window "auto show" option so it isn't constantly poppping up. If the fs atc window is visible, it will intercept any menu selections you are trying to send to RC. The reverse is also true--if the fs atc menu is visible and you press "1" to tune the fs atc frequency, that keystroke will also go to RC and execute whatever menu item 1 is at that moment.Sidney Schwartz [KPDX]Horizon Pilot--flight plans and scenery for FS2002http://sidneyschwartz.homestead.com/index.htmlhttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg
December 3, 200223 yr Author Thanks all -I am up and going. Not having ever used theadvdisplay it does take some getting used to..Also-did notice that about the comms and atc-thanks-at least I am getting somewhere now. So far like the little touches-I even turned off my transponder and got a reaction. It would be great if there was an .ini setting to speed up the pauses between recorded words-it sounds a little robot like to me right now with the gaps.http://members.telocity.com/~geof43/Geofdog2.gif Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
December 3, 200223 yr I recall that setting wav caching on or off in fs would cause problems, but I don't recall the specifics. Any of you guys remember what that was about??Sidney Schwartz [KPDX]Horizon Pilot--flight plans and scenery for FS2002http://sidneyschwartz.homestead.com/index.htmlhttp://jdtllc.com/images/RCsupporter.jpg
December 3, 200223 yr Commercial Member that was in version 2.xcouldn't hurt to play with that setting. fs2002.cfglook for [APL]CACHE_WAV_FILES=0try 1 or 0. mine is set for 0 JD Read my blog
December 3, 200223 yr I recall that setting wav caching on or off in fs would cause problems, but I don't recall the specifics. Any of you guys remember what that was about??The only thing I remember about that was with FS2000, where the FS2000 config file needed to be set as follows:(APL) <--actually in bracketsCACHE_WAV_FILES=0This is what my current FS2002 config file is set to as well. Also, for sound settings under the Audio HQ for my Creative Live Value card I have it set to the maximum of 32 simultaneous wave playbacks. This configuration has worked just fine for me. December 3, 200223 yr Geof,Welcome to RCv3! Nice to see another real pilot taking it for a spin. The pauses aren't in the program or wavs (well, nost of them anyway). Try this. Go to my Flight Deck RCv3 page, DL Juliana's CP set, rename winwood0 to winwood0-rr. Unzip Juliana's set into winwood. Now see if that's better. If not, then you probably need to increase your sound card simultaneous wavs. Look in your manual or help file and see how to do that on your system. It can vary.
December 3, 200223 yr Hi Geof, That panel on your screenshot sure looks familiar. ;-) I see it pretty often in my sim since you released it. Looks like you're getting the snags out of installing RC, good. We all get bit by this from time to time. :-) Your last problem sounds like an audio card not being able to play enough wavs at a time. Might post your cards specs here and we could possibly help with it.Best regards, Rob
December 3, 200223 yr Author Maybe I am not clear here-the wavs themselves play fine-e.g. the word "atis information" , or "contact departure on". It is the space after the wav that is taking about a second and makes it sound choppy. E.g. "contact departure on" 1 2 1 point niner. My card specs show as an avancd ac97 audio.Hardware acceleration is turned all the way up and sample rate conversion quality is set to the highest.I'll try Scott's suggestion when I get a chance today.http://members.telocity.com/~geof43/Geofdog2.gif Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
