ADV Display frame rate hit

Featured Replies

RC3 has been working pretty good for me from the start. Outstanding program! However I have noticed that I'm taking quite a frame rate hit when the ADV display is activated. I'm dropping down from 21-22 FPS to 14-15 FPS when the ADV is activated. Placement of it or docked /undocked makes no difference. Normal? Fitz

not normal. maybe change it's size, font, color, etc.

same here!!with a rather similar frame rate hit!what i do get though, is a green bar (similar to that of FS) with the menu options written without spaces between them.this bar can be moved but not resized (pulling down does nothing and pulling left just makes the script disappear). when I close this bar it can not be reactivated again.anyone experiencing the same?

Hi there,That's the default FS2002 text display bar. Advdisplay intercepts the messages so you don't need it. Close it and forget it.As jd said there should be no noticeable framerate hit from advdisplay. All the best,John

well, I actually use that green bat to get the menu info as activating advdisplay costs me (and Fitz505 so I see) the unnoticeable reduction of 10 frames/s. is there a way to actually insert the ENTIRE mwnu into that display bar? as currently it will intercept only the last linemaybe i did not configure the module correctly, although I tried all the options available, changing text, background colour etc. did not make a difference.anyone with a clue?

I'd suggest to delete it completely and get a fresh download to reinstall.Best, Rob

reinstalled RC, downloaded the latest advdisplay and reinstalled...got exactly the same results - a drop from 20+ to 10 fps once i open advdisplay.a not-so-elegant yet practical way out, i guess, is installing a button on the panel to switch advdisplay on and off. I don't know if that's possible though.the batch files suggested in the other thread really solved the pauses issue, but this one is a real snag, as i have to press alt each time i need to communicate...anyone else with the same problem?

Sorry you are having trouble. I am running P3 866 and the adventure display does not change any frame rates here. Need to do some sleuthing and find what is causing that.good luck.

I haven't seen any loss of FPS using adv display either, but then maybe I missed it. I hate when that happens. Before I experiment, has anyone who is using wide fs, and hides adv display, using show text of course on the client, noticed any fps loss?Larry

are you running widefs, and using ipx protocol?

no, no widefsthis is probably nothing to do with RC but with the module (advdisplay)activated it without RC running and it caused a drop of 10% to 30% in performance.Maybe it has got something to do with the vid. card, although I'm using a rather common gfrc mx200 64M.

You are docking it ?

yes, docked/undocked the same FR loss. reverted to older display drives but that too didn't make any difference.the FR reduction is more severe if there is mode text inside.could it be DX9?BTW my specs are:intel 850MV board with P4 1.5G processor256M RDRAMGforce 2-200MXXP pro SP1SB 128sidewinder FF proDX 9.0 betaAgain, I was just wondering wether it's just myself and fitz505 or are there any others with the same problem?

Fitz505 here. I no longer have the frame rate problem. It seems it had to do with the FS2002 green bar that ran along the top of the screen. I think! I was trying so many things at once. Resizing it, did not clear the problem. I had to remove it completely. Give that a try. Ha5mvo,if you are still having problems, let me know and I'll try to duplicate, what I did. Fitz

yep still having that problem, even when i close that green bar.what i found though, is that when i "cover" the advdisplay window with one of the panels components, say the throttel quadrant or the standby instruments, frame rate returns to normal. so most of the time i fly with the advdisplay window covered to maintain higher fps and only when i want to communicate i hit shift+number to uncover. Not the most elegant solution, but it works.which brings me back to an idea i brought on some previous post, is there a way to make a "gauge" buton which will hide/unhide the display? this will make panels look "cleaner" (and solve my problem too....:) ).cheers HA5
