Strange Mouse Behavior

Featured Replies

Ever since upgrading my OS to WinXP-Home, I have this problem with my mouse. Whenever RC3.1 is talking I can't control the mouse. I have to wait until everyone quits talking to be able to change altitude, course, etc. I have a MS Wheel mouse with the proper (I think) drivers for XP). Sometimes it's not as bad but just now I was landing my PMDG 737-800 at Seattle and it was impossible to control the mouse whenever someone in RC was talking. Anyone have a clue? I sure don't. :-hmmm

do you have an onboard sound card, or a pci sound card?

jd, I have a PCI Audigy 2ZS. It's new since my upgrade to WinXP-Home. I have my sound set in FS to medium but I do have the full acceleration on in DirectX9.0c.Steve

I'll try that tomorrow and get back.

Cranked it down to Basic Acceleration and no joy. Still no control of the mouse while RC is talking..... :-hmmm I uninstalled the mouse and started back up with it attached and still have the problem. This may, repeat may, be a problem with PMDG's 737-800. I'll try a flight with an ERJ tonight to see if I still have the problem.

I think I've solved the problem. I downloaded the drivers for MS Intellimouse 5.2 again and installed it. Then I deleted the mouse in the hardware profile, removed the mouse from the USB socket and shut off the PC. I reinserted the mouse into a different USB socket and rebooted the PC. PC didn't recognize new hardware but the mouse was working.Took a test flight of about 15 minutes -- actually reran the first 15 minutes of my last flight where I couldn't control the mouse when RC was talking -- and experienced no problems at all. Final test tonight. Hopefully reinstalling the drivers was all that was necessary.

jd, After one good test flight, my problem returned. Very bad at the start of the flight with absolutely no control over the mouse while RC is talking. No other sounds cause the problem. Problem got progressively better during a 1-1/4 hr flight but still had problems. Somehow RC is interfering with my Intellimouse. I have a serial mouse that I'm going to try tonight. If that works, I'll completely remove my Intellimouse and reinstall it. Hopefully this will solve the problem. This problem is fairly recent and might have something to do with DirectX9.0c. Seems that my FUICP v3.47 doesn't prevent me from resizing my panel either even though I have that box checked in the Technical section. :hmmm

i have a intellimouse, with no problems. i would think the serial mouse would be worse, since the cpu is going to have to do the work of the mouse/usb portwhat else changed on your machine between when it worked fine, and when this mess started?jd

You're right - the serial mouse did not work. Now figure this: I flew again tonight and all seemed ok. A little hesitant but not as bad as the other night. Like right now I'm writing this and listening to a CD on my PC but the mouse is ok. It's only some times with RC. Really confusing. I thought that it only was doing it when I flew the PMDG 737-800 but I tried a flight with an ERJ and it still wasn't perfect. The only thing that I can think of that is different is DirectX9.0c. I don't remember right when I added that. I've only had XP for a month or so, so that's new too. No problems with my mouse and Win98SE.Steve

Hi Steve,I'd try swapping your current mouse with another mouse (a 2 or 3 button, no mouse wheel), and see if RC works with that. I have a basic 2-button PS2 MS mouse that's 9 years old...no problems.Cheers,Mike T.

I'm going to have to buy another mouse then. I have 2 computers and both have wheel mice. My wife's isn't an intellimouse, though. Other than that all I have is the serial mouse I tried last night and it really didn't work well with XP! Thanks.

OK. I rolled my drivers back from the Intellimouse 5.2ENG to the 4.12. Took a test flight and all was perfect. Won't be able to fly again until the end of next week as I'm going on vacation! Looks (cross fingers here) like that will fix it. (I can't recall having this problem until I downloaded and installed the 5.2s.....
