RC4 and speech recognition

Featured Replies

Hi team,RC4 seams to be a real ATC leap.I was wondering if it would be possible to use speech recognition icw RC4.Here I have a 747 home built cockpit and at the moment I am using a more simple ATC program , but I use speech recognition with it ( not the other ATC program at the Avsim forum ).Thanks for answering,Gerard SaldenTeam WidevieW

not on the day of release. do you have a speech recognition program in mind? might be possible to map phrases to a series of menu keystrokesjd

If the Radar Contact v4 responses to ATC are mappable keys then the programe for the job is Shoot 1.6.4 it's freeware and you can download it here:http://clans.gameclubcentral.com/shoot/downloads.phpUnfortunetly I'm not familiar with v3 as I've been waiting patiently for the new release but I can't see for any reason why it wouldn't work it just might take a little bit of time to setup, training windows to your voice and setting up the mapping.I've used it successfully for some time with other sims. Once V4 is released and I have a working config for Shoot I'll be sure to post it for anyone who's interested in using it.Regards,

send me an email post release, and i'll work with you.jd

JD,Great, will do. Best of luck with release by the way. Regards,

hi Davidthis looks like a great little program.thanks for the linkI just downloaded and will give it a trydo you have commands written for fs2004I saw the ones on their website but there are only few commands.Have you created more specific ones like for PMDG 747 or LDS 767thanksBo

Bo Klop

Bo,I've only ever used it for Silent Hunter III and can controll every aspect of the sub via voice. Sorry I've yet to use it with any aircraft in FS as I find FDC better for the job of getting the copilot to do some work.My thought was that if V4 supports mappable key commands for ATC requests/responses you could create a file for shoot to do the same via voice. Given the many variables of ATC it might take a bit of trial and error but should work.

I'm using RC4 with VoiceBuddy and it's working fine, so I don't have to look for the keyboard when responding to ATC instructions.http://jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannerbeta.jpgPelle F. S. Liljendal

Problem is that, if you did a voice recognition system, with no possibility to use the keyboard, you would loose a lot of sales in foreign countries, since those systems are quite sensitive to foreign accents...They do require a "native" pronunciation.ThanksOlivier

I don' think so... I am definitely not a native speaker and I got like 90-95% recognition rate. It all comes to proper "teaching" of your computer recognition engine to your pronounciation. My guess is that a lot of 'natives' are often lazy to go through that process because - "I speak proper english so it should work out of the box" - and then when it doesn't work they would say - this technology sucks, and is not good enough yet, and ranting goes on...I think that it all works fine on powerfull enough computers and with some additional voices from AT&T or Cepstral TTS is better solution as one used in RC. And even ATC part is far superior in RC I at the moment prefer to use VoxATC because I can speak to atc and there is no need to hunt for some obscure keys - and if I am not recognized there is always posibility to go back to keyboard for that one unrecognized command...So guys I hope if not for RC 4 than at least RC 4.something :() or RC 5 should use this.Dan

The Microsoft Speech Recognition program is capable of working with complete phrases. However you have to speak very clear and not with an accent.Game Commander 2 or 3 on the other hand can be used to work with 2-3 words and my experience is that it is working better than the Microsoft program. It is simpler but more effective ( imho ).The most important thing is that if used icw keymapping a respond that uses key 1 for a respond phrase later cannot use key 3 for a respond phrase..So that has to be sorted out very carefully.

I'm Dane by Birth so English is not my native Langauge, and some of the other guys on the RC4 Beta Teams have "made fun" of my accent (no hard feelings ), but still I have a very high hit rate of VoiceBuddy being able to pick the right command (I would estimate between 95% and 98 %). The "Key to success" is training and not to use short commands. Most controlling of RC is done with the keys 1-9, but in stead on just using "One" I use "Select One" (I have based my own special VoiceBuddy-setup, on its default FSxx setup which used "Select One"). I found using short commands it would sometime execute those commands whenever there was "a noise" in the background (setting down my Coffee cup on the Desk, "Kicking the Chair" and so on).http://jdtllc.com/images/rcv4bannerbeta.jpgPelle F.
