WideFS Issue

Featured Replies

Yes, I think that's definitely whats happening.I think rc itself should work as intended via widefs. All the best,John

Ok, just wanted to do a little update that perhaps is of use to others (perhaps an addition to the FAQ?).As long as I had the makerwys.exe left in my FS9 directory on the secondary machine RCV4 belives that that is the FS9 installation it should look for. The result was that even if I copied the r4.csv from my main computer and the "main" FS9 installation there, pressing the "Rebuild Scenery DB" button would start the makerwys.exe on the secondary comp and overwrite the r4.csv with an erroneous one.The solution was simple. Remove (or in my case rename) the makerwys.exe on the secondary FS9 installation. This triggered RC4 to ask if it was a WideFS installation when pressing the "Rebuild..." button, followed by a prompt for the path to where r4.csv had been created. From there everything worrked fine.PS. For those that may need some guidance regarding network paths try entering the path in the following format: Your_Main_Computer_NameHarddrive_NameFS9In my case it would be HP_PAVILLIONC Nyaste DatornFS9The key is to use the networked names. Interesting, I have now solved my issue. I did not have makerwys.exe anywhere on my client. But, I did once have an install of FS9 on that client, long since removed. I found three or four lingering registry entries that were empty except for out-lining the old path. Once I deleted those RCv4 asked me if this was a wide FS install and away we went. I had originally cleaned my registry by searching for "FS9" and "FS9.exe". I had no entries there, but under "simulator" I found those last hold-outs referencing an old, non-existent path.Joe LorencEDIT - Would be nice if it "remembered" that this was a WideFS install and not force you to re-enter the path each time. - - THX

JD, how about something in the following lines."For users with FS9 installed on multiple computers that install RCv4 on a secondary computer and connect to the main FS9 installation via WideFS. Make sure to delete the file "makerwys.exe" from the secondary computers FS9 folder, then proceed as described in the manual regarding Running Rv4 on a Networked Machine using WideFS (p 139)."English isn

Hi Joe,I thought that was a likely cause ;-)As for remembering the path, you are the second person to ask today. I agree. It would be nice. Pretty please jd :-lolAll the best,John
