January 3, 200620 yr I think I've found the problem but not the solution! It is to do with the anti-aliasing. When I have the anti-aliasing set to 8x, then I get the problems as I mentioned. If I set it to application-controlled then I start getting jagged lines all over the place! I could set it to 4x but then the anti-aliasing quality's not as good. The 71.89 drivers as you mentioned are not for my 7800 card.

You might want to read some of the posts and see if anyone has posted what you are seeing..........
January 5, 200620 yr I also get this problem with my MSI 6800GT. It's not only with Advdisplay though but with just about any window that you put infront of FS, FSPassengers is another example. But the weird thing is that is doesn't occur with every panel, it works fine with the PMDG 737 for example but not with the 747, LDS 767 or FeelThere ERJ.Usually it isn't just a black screen that appears but like an older version of, in this case, the panel.I've had this problem since the first day I bought the Nvidia card(had an ATI 9600XT before) and by now I've tried just about every existing driver but none have solved the problem so I'm currently using the latest official one released on 22 December. To be able to use FSP I'm running only the "short report" and got it placed in the bottom of the screen where it wont "black out" anything important. But of course this isn't possible to do with Advdisplay since it needs to be quite a bit bigger so I searched around in here and found out that you could make a hotkey for Advdisplay using FSUIPC so that's what I did. It still does the "black out" thing and it's far from perfect but at least I can use RC4 now. Alexander Arildsson
January 5, 200620 yr Be careful not to place the Adv Disp window too close to the edge of your panel sides. This has been known to cause problems with its proper functioning.Best, Rob A
January 8, 200620 yr I'm having the same problem. I just got Radar Contact today and am trying it for the first time. The entire window below the top of the AdvDisp window is completely black, no matter where I position the window on the panel. If I undock the window, the panel re-appears but the part of the panel that reappeared is now frozen. If I turn off anti-aliasing, it works okay but then of course looks awful with all the jaggies.I have a GeForce 7800 GTX with 81.98 drivers. I tried rolling back to the 78.01 drivers (which I noticed others were using) but FS keeps freezing up utterly with those.I'm really disappointed because I was looking forward to using this product.
January 8, 200620 yr Commercial Member what happens if you undock advdisp? do you have a second monitor to position it to? maybe put asv6 or a moving map on the second monitor?jd JD Read my blog
January 8, 200620 yr Unfortunately, I don't have a second monitor. When I undock AdvDisp, the panel reappears in the black area but, as I said, that part of the panel freezes from that point. For example, if I mouse-click the flaps, I can hear them extending, but the indicator never moves. Even worse, I can't use the radio stack to change things like the squawk (I'm using the default Cessna). And if I drag the radio stack window, the lower part stays behind, etc, etc. Basically the lower part of the window never gets redrawn. So there's a problem in drawing of the screen from the top of the AdvDisp window on down. Either it's black (if AdvDisp is docked), or it's frozen (if AdvDisp is undocked). It's frustrating because I've installed a bunch of software over the last week (Ultimate Terrain, ActiveSky, Ultimate Traffic, FSBuild) and everything was working great up until I installed RadarContact today. And RC was probably what I was most looking forward to.
January 8, 200620 yr Commercial Member and you've verified that you have advdisp version 2.14?and is it only one panel that this happens on? if you load the ms learjet, does advdisp do the same thing?jd JD Read my blog
January 8, 200620 yr Hi Bruce,I just managed to reproduce the problem here but only running FS in fullscreen mode at 8xS antialiasing. Do you see the problem when running FS in windowed mode (alt enter to toggle between them) or full screen with 4x AA?I'm running an Nvidia 6600GT with the latest Nvidia drivers (8198)All the best,John
January 8, 200620 yr Commercial Member i guess you can report your finding to pete....jd JD Read my blog
January 8, 200620 yr For jd's questions: I can't figure out what version of AdvDisp I have, it's whatever was on the RadarContact disk I got yesterday. And the problem does occur on the other panels as well (at least I tried the Lear). For John's questions: yes, you are right, the problem seems to go away if I run in windowed mode. But, running full screen, I still see the problem at 4x AA. The problem does go away at 2x AA, but I get weird flashing whenever I switch views at that level.I've always run in full screen mode so I'm not sure if I lose anything running in windowed mode - other than having to see the window title bar and menu on the screen all the time. But it does seem to work okay there until maybe nVidia can put out some better drivers.
January 8, 200620 yr Commercial Member go to your fs directory, go to the modules directory, and hover with your mouse over advdisp.dllyou'll see something like 2.1.3.3 or 2.1.4.0 as the version numberjd JD Read my blog
January 8, 200620 yr Hi Bruce,When 4x caused problems full screen was it 4xS or plain 4x antialiasing. My card only allows 4x or 8xS so I'm wondering if it's the 8x that's the problem or the 'S'.If I were you I'd run in windowed mode. It seems to make little difference on my system. You can hide the FS menu bar and minimise the windows tak bar if you want. All the best,John
January 8, 200620 yr It was 4x, I don't have a 4xS on my card either. So it happens for me in 8xS or 4x.I guess I don't know how to hide the FS menu bar. I have the task bar set to auto-hide, but I don't know how to hide the menu bar. Thanks,Bruce
January 8, 200620 yr Hi Bruce,Right click on the forward view window and there should be a 'hide menu bar' option. All the best,John
