Hello, just a quick question concerning vertors; I departed from KSAN using runway 9 for a flight to Sacramento once airborne and handed of to departure control I notice that I was not give heading, unlike the default ATC. Do I just follow the GPS and turn on the autopilot and do it myself?...because I was flying east for a long time till I had to quit the flight for other reason.Thanks,Bill

If your first waypoint is within 30 miles on take-off you will receive a take-off clearance for departure as filed for you to do your own navigation. You will be expected to follow the plan until on arrival you start getting vectors or elect to fly an IAP to follow your plan under your own navigation means. RC will contact you in this case when you are on final if you are at a controlled airport.

Ron I had a perfect flight from KSAN to KSMF, the approach was spot perfect. Thanks RC! Its 110% better than the default ATC system. Question, why did ground control call the Hawaiian 767-300 as Hawaiian Air instead of Hawaiian, plus it did not added the "heavy" to the callsign? i don't know that the ai was heavyand the recording for HAWAIIAN says Hawaiian Airwe will correct that call sign in v5jd

Actually, you would not fly over MZB but do a merge onto a radial from it.The best thing to do is download from www.flightaware.com under resources, select KSAN, and get the .pdf bundle of all terminal procedures. Look at the LNSAY departure to get an idea of what to put in your plan. If you can enter the waypoints into your FMC, GPS, or other LNAV device, after you make the intial left turn off RWY 9, it will give you guidance (AP coupled if you wish) for this bit of a "zig-zag" departure for a realistic route. Since you first waypoint might still be under 30 nm, you'll still do your own navigation RC clearance.on't forget to read the text descriptions.Since these plates are current you might find a few of the waypoints renamed from the FS database but it is always nice to have a picture of departures and arrivals. In this case the "zig-zag" avoids either conflicting other airport patterns and/or terrain obstacles, possibly noise abatement.
