November 7, 200718 yr I cant' seem to pinpoint this but sometimes I keep getting slammed by ATC that I am busting my altitude. It's happening to me again now so this time I dediced to ask the question.I am flying the CLS-DC10 Brussels to London.I am exactly at 15,000 feet. SHIFT-Z confirms this, my QNH is set by pressing B.But ATC keeps saying "you busted....." Your assigned altitude is 15,000Which is exactly where I'm at.Is this a bug of some sort or am I missing something? Thanks.
November 7, 200718 yr Some more on this.Currently on 11,000 exactly.Talking to ATC and saying "Gemini 5" is at 1054 for 11,000.So the altitude that I see and what matches FSX is different then the ATC one.
November 7, 200718 yr Commercial Member did you read the section in the documentation about transition altitudes, transition levels, and how "B" in FSx sets the altimeter to the local pressure below FL180, and 29.92 or 1013 above 18,000?your transition level is probably, guessing here, FL50, maybe FL60, depends on the local pressure.did the "you busted..." phrase say 15,000 or FL150? there is a difference.probably said FL150, which means your altimeter should have been at the std pressure, which means the shift z probably would not have said 15000if you make this correction, and still bust your altitude, create a .log, details pinned at the top of the forum, and send me the .logjd JD Read my blog
November 7, 200718 yr Just had it happen now.Sir you need to watch....3rd time now.Your assigned altitude is flight level niner zeroAnd I am currently exactly at 8999 feet according to SHIFT-Z and the altimeter says 9,000 exactly.Pressing B does not make any further changes to the barometric pressure.Does that answer your question?
November 7, 200718 yr HiWhen flying away from the Americas in particular transition altitude varies according to the country and is lower than 18000ft.In your example you quote that FL90 is bust and this signifys that your barometric pressure setting is not correct. The use of the B key has been known to give false readings away from the Americas airspace.Fly your flight again and note the local transition height.Change your pressure setting manually and see if that works fine. November 7, 200718 yr >Your assigned altitude is flight level niner zero>>And I am currently exactly at 8999 feet according to SHIFT-Z>and the altimeter says 9,000 exactly. At that point your altimeter should be 29.92, what does yours read?
