  1. Greetings all! I'm upgrading my video card from a 7600GS to the 8800GT. In an attempt to get my ducks in a row before the card arrives, I was wondering which drivers seem to work best with that card. I'm running FS9 SP1 in WinXP. I have so far downloaded the lastest drivers (that I know of anyway) 169.31 and also an older set, 163.76. I have Nhancer installed, but I have also downloaded the newer version of that also.Speaking of Nhancer, I am currently running v32.3.1, and will be installing v32.3.2. Will the new version overwrite my profiles?Regards,Scott KJMS (or thereabouts)
  2. Disregard, I was now able to get the file a few moments ago.ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)
  3. Hi,I'm trying to download the Tinmouse II 1.24 beta upgrade. The file name is tinmouse2_b732_v1_24beta.zip. After I click on the download button, I get taken to a download page, then the page turns into a "Page cannot be displayed" message page.Is there a fix for this? Thanks,ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)
  4. Hi Jim,Thanks for the reply. I have my AA set at 4x and AF set to 8x (via nHancer) - at least that's what I think it is, since I'm at work now. I believe I'm using the latest build of AS.My old machine was an AMD 2500+ Athlon XP. I had the frames locked to 25 on that, and in heavy clouds (3 layers), they would drop down to the low teens, which would be expected on that system. Sometimes during flight on my new system in clouds they will drop to 10 momentarily. What is funny, though, is that I'm also running IL2 Sturmovik 1946, and have the settings mostly maxed out there, including detailed clouds, and don't see any performance hits. I know that's apples & oranges, but that sim is very CPU intensive (what with all the AI traffic and ground activity).Regards,ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)
  5. Greetings all!I've been using ActiveSky for a few years now and am delighted with the product - can't imagine simming without it.I recently bought a new computer:Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0GhzAsus 775 P5NeSLI nVidia 650 CORE 2 Duo Quad Mo Board4GB DDR2 PC6400/800Mhz memoryGF-FX-7600GS PCI-EX 512MB grapics cardOp Sys WinXP SP2FS9 SP1ActiveSky V6FS AutoStart to shut down unnecessary stuffFSUIPC Registeredother assorted goodies ;-)Anyway, I have my frames locked at 60, fair amount of detail & default AI running. However, whenever I encounter any substantial amount of clouds when running downloaded AS weather, my frames plummet to the med teens. I'm not using any high end payware a/c, mostly the older jets and t-props from Piper, Maltby, & Co. I have my cloud layers limited to 3, I do not use online updated wx, vis set to 30 (using the SoftHorizon addon), cloud draw to 30...I was using the medium clouds (512x512), but have dropped to the lower (128x128) and that didn't make much difference. The frame rate drop will occur over dense scenery and also out in the middle of nowhere.I could post more settings if need be, but is there anything I can do to not take such a large frame rate hit?Regards.ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)
  6. Thanks for the reply! DUHHHH!!!! I thought I had set 32bit, but upon checking, it was at 16bit....I'll attribute that "senior moment" to not getting enough sleep the past couple of nights ;-)ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)
  7. Hi All,I finally bought a new computer. It has the GeForce 7600GS 512MB card, and came with driver version 6.14.11.6218. I'm using the Samsung 906CW 19" LCD monitor. I'm using ActiveSky 6.5 with the all the updates.Compared to my old system, the clouds look pretty horrible to me (this is no fault of the ActiveSky Graphics). I'm using the highest quality 32bit setting for the clouds I could find in the ActiveSky Graphics menu. The clouds seem to be washed out and have lines in them. Is this a problem with the video card/monitor? Does anyone know if a different set of drivers would make a difference or any setting suggestions?Any help would be appreciated. I was really excited about getting this new computer for FS9, but the way the clouds are displayed is taking all the enjoyment out of it.Thanks,ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)
  8. I was experiencing the same problem. What worked for me was going back to FSUIPC ver 3.70. I do believe Peter Dowson released a newer version that was supposed to take care of the random CTD's. I'm happy with v3.70, so I haven't tried the updated one.Hope this helps,ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)
  9. Hi Jim,Thanks for reply. The strange temp readings causing a "white out" of textures does make sense. What is odd is that I had several flights during one week awhile back where it happened on almost every flight...when posted the problem originally. Is there any chance in subsequent versions of AS you will tighten up the filters somewhat to prevent this from occuring?ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)
  10. As a follow-up, I deleted FSUIPC v3.71 and reintalled v3.70. I then rebooted the computer, and flew again the same exact route in the same exact aircraft using the same date/time using the same ActiveSky Wx as the previous flight. This time everything went as it should. There were no temp variations nor none of the strange visibility issues. However, since this was only 1 flight, it is by no means conclusive nor definitive that FSUIPC v3.71 might be the problem. Now that I've had a chance to reflect upon this, I do recall there being some instances in which the departing airports METAR temp did not match what was indicating on the default C182's (or the aircraft I subsequently selected). I cannot recall if this occured before the installation of FSUIPC v3.71 or not. In those cases, the departing airports temp was the "standard" of 15C. It would rapidly change to the METAR value as I climbed out.Anyway, it's something to look at, I guess.Regards,ScottKJMS(or thereabouts)
  11. Hi there,I had posted a week or so back about the strange display when flying into and out of AFB/NAS in Florida and Georgia. Something is really strange, because I flew a week of flights in the same area into and out of civilian airports without a problem.Just now I flew from flight KMIA - MYNN and everything was fine until I was descending into MYNN. Here is the METAR for MYNN for the weather I was using: MYNN 210300Z 04006KT 9999 FEW020 23/19 Q1022All of a sudden I noticed the scenery/display had changed to the same from my previous post. This time I noticed a strange phenomenon.During the cruise portion of my flight at 13,000 the temp had been a few degrees below 0C. As I was getting close to the airport and leveling off for the initial part of the approach, the scenery/vis changed as described above, but the temp had dropped to -8C! By the time I landed (which was no mean feat ), the temp was -36C...and this is at Nassau in the Bahamas!!!!So I think the temp/weird vis must be related somehow. I also wonder if it has something to do with v3.71 of FSUIPC (registered) that I'm using. I've seen posts in the FS9 forum of strange unannounced CTD's with the version. I have also experienced those CTD's which I hadn't prior to updating to the latest version. I am going back to v3.70 and see if I have the same problems. If anyone has any other suggestions, I would like to hear them. Thanks,ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)
  12. Hi Jim,If I decide to fly military LogAir routes again with my VA, I'll take another screenshot and post the METAR from the airport in question. I doubt I'll be flying out of military bases again, due to the oddities I've been experiencing in their area.As far as the METAR goes, in reference to the pic I posted, that info is in my original post. I do think that the fact all vis in the TAF at military bases is reported as a maximum value of 7SM has something to do with all this.Evidently it is not a widespread problem, as Glenn is the only other person who posted, besides yourself, of course ;-)Regards,ScotKJMS (or thereabouts)
  13. Hi Jim,Thanks for the reply. I have an XFX GeForce 6600 card and am using the latest nVidia drivers...just downloaded them last week. I did fly the same flight using the stock FS weather, and everyhing was fine. The conditions you see in the pic I posted happened on about 3 flights...all from and to military bases in the Georgia and Florida area over a couple of day time span.Regards,ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)
  14. Hi all,I've recently been doing some flying from AFB's and NAS's in the Florida/Georgia area. I get some weird looking graphics (due to weather) at such places - see attachment. The scenery will load fine, but then it gradually changes to what you see in the pics. After I take off, climb out and get some distance away, everything will change back to normal. However, once approaching my destination, things will change back just like in the pics. The TAF for the airport in question was: KWWRB 150155Z Auto 0000KT10SM OVC060 17/14 A3025I'm using ActiveSky v6.5, Build 533 in FS9. I have the payware version 3.71 of FSUIPC.These strange occurances do not happen at the civilian airports in the area. Thanks,ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)
  15. Well, the problem seemed to have solved itself. I rebooted the computer and FS9 loaded normally.Weird...Regards,Scott KJMS(or thereabouts)
  16. Hi all,For some reason, tonight when I loaded FS9, the views began to switch without any input from me. The aircraft loads in the 2D cockpit, then cycles to the 3D, then to the tower view, then spot view, back to the 2D and keeps repeating. I tried loading a different aircraft, moving to a different airport, but it made no difference. I also went back to an FS9 cfg file that I saved as a backup, but that didn't help either.I haven't done anything to the computer or my installation of FS9 since I shut it down last night. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!Regards,ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)
  17. Just wanted to follow-up my post with the results.I think I've managed to cure my problem - and thanks alot for the replies!I did 2 things: I removed AutoTower (not sure if that was causing the problem or not), and I cleaned out the inside of my computer case. It had been about 9 months since I'd been in there....and it was ugly! There was a large piece of lint, sitting on top of my CPU's cooling fins, under the fan. I removed that with a pair of tweezers, and sucked the rest of the dust and cat hair (I have 2 indoor Tabbies) out of the case. I've flown a couple of long flights since then, without any problems.Happy New Year to all!ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)
  18. I'll do a search for the Memtest86+. You know, I was thinking the same thing about the case...I think it's been about 9 months since I was last in there and blew out the dust. I'll give that a shot too. Thanks,ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)
  19. Hi Bob,Thanks for the reply. I have the 9.1 patch installed...perhaps I'll re-install it and see if that helps. I'm not using any external ATC - nor do I have it turned off, and I do have the registered version of FSUIPC.I just downloaded a little utility called "File Monitor". I'll have that running next time I sim, and if I crash, hopefully the file causing the problem will be in the list.Regards,ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)
  20. Hi all,I'm at my wit's end so I thought I'd post here and see if anyone might have some insight to my problem.Within the past 10 days or so, I've started to experience random crashes in FS9. There is no rhyme of reason to it. I'll be flying along and usually sometime between an hour and a half to two hours, the sim will crash. There is no warning/error message...I'm just dumped back to the desktop. However there have been occasions where I have flown a two hour flight without the CTD. I haven't added any scenery (using only the default) nor done anything to my system. I thought I had it cured when I figured out FS AutoStart wasn't shutting down the latest version of the free AVG anti-virus, but I've reconfigured FS AutoStart and I'm still getting the crashes. I mostly fly older props and turboprops...Rick Piper's aircraft. However that shouldn't be the problem as I'd flown them for hundreds of hours before this started happening. FS9 is the only application this is happening with. I can fly IL2 and it's addon's without any problem. I have an older computer, an AMD Athlon 2500+, 1 Gig RAM, xFx GeForce 6600 256MB card. One application I haven't shut down before simming is the ZoneLabs firewall, but I've had that for over a year and left it running while simming without any problems. If anyone has any ideas, I'd sure like to hear them!Regards,ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)
  21. Success!!!!Thanks for all the help, Andy, Jim & Chris! I do have the weather graphics up and running now. I managed to find .net 1.1 via a google search that took me to the proper place on the Microsoft site. I downloaded and installed the app, and all is working now.Once again, thanks for the wonderful support...which I see is still at the same level of excellence as it was when I was running ActiveSky 4.5 and had questions.Regards,ScottKJMS
  22. Ok, can you provide a direct link to it? When I go to the Microsoft site, do a search for .net 1.1, click on a download link, I get taken every time to a windows update page, and that page tells me I don't need any updates.Regards,ScottKJMS
  23. Andy,You mentioned the "official SU3 release" in your reply. Is that the version I downloaded from the HiFi page? Are there updates somewhere that I'm missing?Regards,ScottKJMS
  24. Hi Andy and Jim,I've tried at least a half a dozen times to get the Weather Graphics to load - no joy.I'm assuming I have the Microsoft Net thing. Before I downloaded ASv6 I went to the Microsoft site (via the instructions on the HiFiSim home page) and updated my computer. The updates (there were two) that it said my computer needed were downloaded and installed. It didn't say specifically that it was installing the .Net 1.1, but if my machine needed it, wouldn't it have installed? I'm running WinXP Home with SP2.[Just to let you know, a few minutes after I posted this, I went back to the Microsoft site and did a search for .net 1.1. I followed the link to install it - which is the windows update link. It checked my computer and said I didn't need any updates/downloads.]Regards,ScottKJMS(or thereabouts)
  25. Hi all,Having been a longtime user of ActiveSky 4.5, I decided this evening to purchase, download and install ASv6. However, after installation, the ActiveSky Graphics will not load...either from the icon within the ActiveSky program itself, nor from the desktop (the ASv6 program appears to be functioning OK). When I attempt to load from the desktop I get the following message: "The application failed to initialize properly....".I have uninstalled AS 4.5 and also uninstalled/reinstalled ASv6, but it hasn't made any difference. I'm running the latest registered version of FSUIPC.Any help will be appreciated.Regards,ScottKJMS (or thereabouts)
