  1. Michael,I'm at work so I can't look up the CD files right now. Perhaps someone else can respond more quickly. As I mentioned, most of my CTDs have been texture related so reloading the default textures may be the answer. It's really hard to say without having a log file that can be inspected on startup to see where the error occurs and what the program is loading at the time.Bruce
  2. Michael,Anchorage is one of the bitmapped areas in FS, so the problem needs additional investigation. Do you have any other scenery in the region, like bush scenery. It may not be near Anchorage, but may still be within a LOD tile that is loading into memory. Make sure you have all extras removed, including any extra landclass or DEM files.Once you are sure all extras are disabled, then the problem may be a default file corruption.I would try disabling the Anchorage bitmap in the scenery config. This will determine if the associated generic BGLs are causing the CTD or the bitmap. As for knowing which one... geeze! good luck! You can use the LWMViewer to get an idea of which BGLs are active in the Anchorage area and replace them from the installation disk. It may be simpler to use the brute force method and just copy the default bgls for the NAMW area back over the originals.I've been dealing with CTDs for the past 3 months. It's part of the risk of using add-ons. I really hope that MS is able to trap the errors more gracefully in the next version so we have some clue as to where to look for the problem. For example, this week I had a CTD in the Warsaw, Poland area and the cause was a AIA 737 texture for a plane in the Baltics - not exactly a direct connection between the area of the problem and the cause. I spent one whole day looking for problems in the Warsaw area only to eliminate every possibility and still have a CTD. If an error trap could just ID the BGL as the sim goes into meltdown, we'd all have better running sims and fewer headaches.Bruce
  3. Mike,Although a very fitting reply to Al's remark, I'm surprised that you responded to a troller obviously looking to incite reaction within this thread. Seems to reinforce your theory as Al is somewhere between the misinformation type (see his reply to my post) and hostility type mentioned in your post.As for the wildcard you mentioned, I believe those people have elevated themselves to a higher level through prior experience and purposeful exclusion of the emotions you mentioned. The major difference being those people understand nothing constructive results from participation in any one of the categories listed. If anything, perpetuation and propagation results.Bruce
  4. The aircraft's radius will determine where it parks. If your aircraft's radius is larger than the parking settings within the AFCAD, that would explain why you are seeing the Electra in a Heavy Jet spot.
  5. >> ...is that the current one is so close to blissfulness...I agree! That's why I'm using flight simulator and enjoying it to the max rather than stalking the forums waiting for news of 2006 (or whatever it may be).If you really love FS2004 that much, what's the big deal about when the next version will be launched? You might have a point in searching for release news if you had problems with the current version and the next version promised to remedy those problems. That doesn't seem to be the case.If you stop and think about it, the anxiety over the lack of an announcement is self-motivated. So enjoy what you have now and save up the worries for the release when you discover all of the add-ons that need to be updated because you were so anxious to get the newest version."Life is what happens when your busy making plans"
  6. Open FS9.CFG (its' located in different places depending on your version of Windows, check the tips and tricks pinned topic at the top of the forum if you can't locate FS9.CFG). You may have to perform an "open with" command to a text editor if you have not already associated cfg files with a text editor.Inside the file, locate the section title AContainer (name between square brackets). Each of the lines in this section controls the display above AI Traffic. Change the variable ShowLabelFlightPlan=1 to show flight plans. While in the config file, you can edit the other AI label variables to whatever you prefer. Save and exit the file.Restart FS and you'll see your changes.Bruce

  10. David,Different parts of the world have different laws on monitoring radio transmissions. There are free ACARS monitoring programs on the internet and they all have the disclaimer to not use them if it's illegal in your country or region of the country. It's fun connecting one or more of these decoders simultaneously on the internet and picking up aircraft transmissions that one could never hear locally. It's also a great way to build airline fleet registrations when making AI traffic schedules. I've been running an ACARS server at my home for the past year. When someone connects to it, there is a disclaimer that reception of the data may be illegal in their part of the world. I normally have 10 to 14 people connected at any time of the day. It's usually the same people, which leads me to think they are connected to multiple ACARS hosts and collecting their own database of data on their client software.Bruce
  11. You don't say much about your setup. Are you running the 9.1 upgrade? Do you have the sim set to automatically bypass the flight selection menu?If you are bypassing the flight selection menu, then you can't tell if the sim is crashing after the splashscreen or when it's trying to load the default start up file. I'd be very surprised if the sim is crashing during the splashscreen because an operating system error normally appears. The other reason you could be crashing to the desktop is a hardware issue. You mentioned rebuilding fs9.cfg, but this will not help if one your memory panels is undervoltage or if you are overclocking your CPU.If you are at least getting the flight selection menu, then there must be a scenery conflict with a bad BGL file. You say you removed the LOWW scenery. Was this from a single folder that held scenery and textures? Or were some of the BGLs copied into your main scenery folder? You may not have a complete uninstall. If you think you do have a complete uninstall, try creating a flight at a different airport. If FS doesn't crash, then the airport in your last saved situation file is creating the problem. Explore all scenery, aircraft, AFCAD, and landclass at that airport until you find the problem. If FS crashes at different airports, then you have a widespread conflict. The next series of steps is to remove your addons, one layer at a time, until you determine what is causing the problem.Start by setting all of the non-FS scenery to False in the scenery.cfg file. If you keep all of your AFCADS in the Addon Scenery, this change will also eliminate an AFCAD conflict. If you don't, pull the AFCADS out from where ever they are stored and save them in a temp folder outside of FS.Try starting FS again. If you have a crash, it's not in the AFCAD or addon scenery, but may be in your AI traffic. I know you have addon traffic by your screenshots. Have you added any new paint schemes since your last successful startup? Move all of your traffic files from the main scenery folder to an external temp folder. This is an easy way to cancel the AI aircraft. Also move any addon aircraft to a temp folder. Try starting FS.If you don't crash, you'll have to go through your AI aircraft and/or addon aircraft to determine which aircraft has the bad texture. I've had to do this a couple of times and it's not easy and takes a long time.If you still crash, you've narrowed it down to either 1) an original FS file or 2) an addon bgl added to your main scenery file. The simple solution is to reinstall FS and then promise yourself to never put addon BGLs into the main scenery folder. :-) Instructions tell you to do this but I always place new BGLs into a subfolder of the Addon Scenery folder. In summary, the problem can be anywhere. Some people are going to say it's the seasonal CTD problem. But if you were able to run the sim until recently and never have a CTD, then that can't be the problem, especially if you are running 9.1. Explore your hardware. It's the fastest way to eliminate one of the possible problems. The software side is tedious and very hard to locate. If you have too much time invested in setting up addons, you may want to look for the problem, otherwise, the quick solution after checking the hardware is to reinstall and then carefully manage how and where you install your addon scenery and aircraft.
  12. Brian,Here are all of the COA Expressjet routes as of last Dec 2004. It's routing only between city pairs by aircraft type. You'll have to look up the departure times on the website and determine cruise altitudes (which constantly change due to airspace restrictions and winds aloft).I created this for a commercial flight planner and since you asked, it was easy to extract and post.Hope this helps anyone else that is interested in COA Expressjet routes.Bruce
  13. David,Interesting that you are bringing this topic to light because 10 years ago, BAO (developer of FS at the time) produced an airport tower simulator. Traffic was commandable on the ground and in the air using similar graphic components found in FS at the time. BAO even developed the first photorealistic backgrounds that put FS aircraft at the gates, taxiways and runways of a background bitmap. It didn't do well, which probably explains why you don't find such a program today. You may be fascinated by the concept, but the general public never was too keen on the idea. You can try it yourself at http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?name=TowerRealize that it is over 10 years old and not up to today's stadards, but was quite an engineering achievement in its day.Bruce
  14. Just a minor correction on historical release dates...FS9 was released earlier than any previous version in order to time it's theme, a Century of Flight, with the Oshkosh event.Historically, all the way back to FS1 for the IBM PC, the release date is during the Sept-Oct timeframe. The one exception is FS8, which was set to release mid-Sept and in stores first week of October, until the 9/11 event. It was held back a couple of months, which bought the developers more time and kept the sim out of the headlines (sims were not getting good press at that time).
  15. >> And now I swore myself to take extreme care what I'm gonna install and what not.Andreas is absolutely correct! All of us have unique FS setups and there is no magic bullet to get rid of CTD's. The best we can do is try to isolate the issue and fix it.For example, I had a CTD at EHAM, but only at certain times of the day and night. At all other times the sim worked fine. I moved to KSEA and tested all different hours and no CTD. So it couldn't be hardware and it had to be something associated with EHAM. I removed all of my EHAM add-on scenery plus EHAM AFCAD and still had the CTD. So I removed all of my AI traffic textures for airlines at EHAM and guess what? No CTD at any time of the day or night. It was a matter of isolating which texture BMPs were causing the crash. There were two files causing the problem. Luckily, those airline repaints existed for other AI models, so I installed different model textures and no more CTD.I relate this story because it's possible to root out the cause of the CTD, though it's not an easy task and one must have some patience. If you're willing to add on to FS, or change your hardware after FS is installed, then be prepared to fix possible CTDs.If FS has a CTD right after a clean install with no add-ons, then then that is a legitimate reason to complain to Microsoft. But to come to the forum and complain about CTDs when the sim has been modified umpteen times after it's original install is just immature and silly. Take some responsibility for one's choices and fix the CTDs or, at the least, stop using add-ons!Listen to the wise words of Andreas: "limit the installation of add-ons, and be extremely cautious with freeware." You'll save yourself both wasted time and trouble.
  16. Tom,It's a real blessing that your business takes you internationally and you are able to meet with simmers. The photos demonstrate how the passion for flight simulation has no international boundaries. The FS community is fortunate to have someone like you, in a leadership role at AVSIM, hear the opinions and thoughts of various international groups. I think it can only enhance the direction of AVSIM into the future.I spent part of my vacation last October in Turkey and it was an incredible country to visit. Good luck with the success of your real job and the venture in Istanbul!

  19. Zane,If you're a loyal customer, that's fine. However, the idea that updates must cost money to justify the labor is not always the case.Take the competing weather product ActiveSky 2004. Users were required to purchase this if they already owned ActiveSky Wx because it was a totally new product for FS2004. Once that purchase was made, every update since (and there have been plenty) were issued for free.I think this is why many users are posting that it's not worth it to pay for an incremental upgrade.Marc has the right to charge what the market can bear, but with the competition Marc has, he may want to rethink his pricing strategy or risk losing customers.Bruce

Cudjoe Marina that accesses Cudjoe Bay on the south end of Cudjoe Key (halfway between Marathon and Key West).I have several guesses:1> it's an obsolete intersection in the area of Cudjoe Key.2> it's a "custom" waypoint used privately by an airline. Some airlines will specify waypoints in a flight plan that are not in the AIRAC database.3> it's the name of a procedure (STAR, DP, IAP)Bruce
